Award Winning Ukulele / Singer / Songwriter: Victoria Vox
Eclectic, upbeat and clever, Victoria Vox, has been warming the hearts of her audience across the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. Her songs are honest, moving, but also light-hearted. Vox earned a degree in songwriting from the Berklee College of Music and has become known among the ukulele community for her refreshingly modern and rhythmic ukulele technique. Since 2006, Vox has been a highlight at ukulele festivals around the world, where she both performs and gives workshops to the budding ukulele player. Her songs have been featured on NPR, television and in independent films. In 2009, Vox auditioned and was invited to be an Artist in Residence (AIR) at the Strathmore Performing Arts Center in Bethesda, MD, where she performed, gave a songwriting workshop, and was able to attend career meeting with other AIRs. Vox is also multi-award winning songwriter. She received First Place for her french tune, "C'est Noyé" and Runner up for the 40's-esque "My Darlin' Beau" in the International Acoustic Music Awards. Vox has won several WAMA awards (Washington Area Music Awards): Contemporary Folk Vocalist, Album of the Year, and Fan Favorite, as well as the "Vox Pop" (people's choice) Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year with her album, Exact Change, in the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards. She has been included in Relix Magazine and Washington D.C.'s City's Best lists of artists to watch. Also, Vox appeared on the Jay Leno Show to demonstrate her perfected mouth trumpet! Originally from Green Bay, WI, Vox now lives in Baltimore, MD and performs 125+ shows a year.
In April 2009, Victoria put out a Craigslist ad looking for a cellist and the self proclaimed "classically trained mees, uh, cellist", Katie Chambers responded to the ad. The two have been working together ever since.
Katie Chambers first picked up at cello at the age of twelve. At Annapolis High School in Annapolis, MD, Katie was invited to play with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and was 4th chair on the Maryland All State Orchestra. At the University of Maryland, Katie studied with Evelyn Esling, professor of Chamber Music, Kenneth Slowicik of the Smithsonian Early Music Program and David Sawyer of Guarneri String Quartet. Katie played in the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Musical Theater in such productions as Music Man and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She received a scholarship to The San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2005, where she was principal cellist of the opera for Cendrillon and The Last Five Years. There she studied under the teaching Jean Michel Fonteneau and Mark Sokol. Other productions with the Conservatory include St. John's Passion. After the Conservatory, she returned to the University of Maryland to play principal cellist on Jane Eyere, the world premieres of Green Bird and Ash Girl. She continues to perform in various orchestras and ensembles around the DC, Maryland and Virginia area as well as teach cello, piano, violin and viola with her company Kinship Music Studios.
