Venus Bogardus formed in Bath, England in late 2005, and relocated to the US in early 2009, where the band has continued to receive rave reviews and press for live and recorded music, and were proud to support Mike Watt and the Missingmen on the second date of their April, 2009 US tour. Extensive reviews are available at www.venusbogardus.com along with full bio.
A few press extracts for 2010's album, Spitting at the glass:
"Spitting At The Glass is a really cool album full of inventive pop/rock tunes that don't sound anything like all the horrible commercial dribble currently poisoning America. .TOP PICK." - babysue
"Thirteen tracks of truly mind-bending mania, "Spitting at the Glass" is a Post-Punk/No Wave dream come true. .This is an amazing blend of old and new, tying the international three-piece of Venus Bogardus to the old school sound while bringing it to a new, modern audience. The album is haunting, dark, foreboding and mechanical. The combination is a truly wonderful piece of musical mayhem that replenishes the soul and restores faith that modern music has a soul to begin with." - Metro Spirit, Augusta, GA
"Venus Bogardus’ channeling of The Golden Years of Androgyny doesn’t share in that music’s ambient misogyny. The totality evinces more than just the kind of token feminist interest Mick Jagger shows for dressing up like a girl and prancing about going woo, woo." SFStation.com, write-up for San Jose tour date
"One thing's for sure, there's no lack of diversity or depth across the thirteen tracks on 'Spitting at the Glass,' but that isn't to say it lacks the unity or cohesiveness of a full developed album-length work. There's a consistency of quality and a kick-ass attitude that permeates every moment of the record. No two ways about it: 'Spitting at the Glass' is a cracking album, and Venus Bogardus are as cool as they come." - album review by Christopher Nosnibor for Whisperin and Hollerin
Venus Bogardus has released two albums with five03 records in New York City.
James, Hannah and Luke live in the Santa Fe area and tour nationally as Venus Bogardus.
