Urban Sun is an nine-piece New York City band that combines elements of funk, rock, and soul to create an energetic and unforgettable live show. An Urban Sun concert can be quite the funky ride, as the band covers a lot of ground - everything from original tunes to their homages to legendary influences like the Meters, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, and P-Funk ( to name a few).
Urban Sun's grooves are skin-tight, creative, deeply funky and highly infectious - once you hear them, you'll know why they're notorious for removing butts from their chairs. Performing since 2002, the band has developed a strong NYC fan base, consistently packing hundreds of heads into venues like B.B. King's, the Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Sullivan Hall and many more. Now word is spreading beyond the five boroughs, and the band has been gaining fans up and down the East Coast, playing solid shows and opening for such class acts as Trombone Shorty, Johnny Sketch, Salvador Santana, and Cyril Neville.
Urban Sun is currently hard at work on the follow up to their 2008 studio debut, Practice Me (available via CD baby and Itunes). In addition to the funky grooves that fans have come to expect, the album will also include an exclusive new track written by New Orleans music legend Allen Toussaint.
