Upten, groupe de ska 60s, rocksteady, soul et reggae, s'est formé fin 2005 à Paris. Il est alors composé de 10 musiciens. Tous jouent ou ont joué dans d'autres groupes tels que 8°6 crew, Gotham CT, Original Barbershop, Soul Invaders, Stylnox, Presbytarians, Western Special, Acapulco Gold et Skarface.
A l'occasion de concerts donnés en commun, ces musiciens se sont rencontrés, liés d'amitié et ont décidé de se lancer dans l'aventure Upten.
Un premier concert en novembre 2006 à Paris et la sortie d'un 45 tours en janvier 2007 seront rapidement suivis de dates à Douarnenez, Rennes [Festival dance Ska La], Lille, Paris [La Java et La Guinguette Pirate], Nancy, Dijon [Les Tanneries], Festival de Concoules. avec des groupes comme Moon Hop, The Caroloregians, The Dualers, The Shogettes, Original Barbershop, The Pepperpots, etc.
En juillet 2007, la rythmique se retrouve en studio pour enregistrer. La section cuivre et le chant devaient suivre, mais un coup du sort en a décidé autrement; au mois d'août 2007 le batteur (Olivier) décède brutalement. Suite à cet évènement, le groupe traversera une année difficile. Jason, un ami batteur, viendra occuper le poste pour un temps et assurera deux concerts, à Prague [République Tchèque] avec GreenSmatroll et à Bobigny avec The Slackers et Arpioni.
Début 2008, les membres d'Upten décident de repartir en studio pour terminer l'album qu'ils avaient commencé.
Après le départ du sax soprano, Jean Misay, le nouveau batteur rejoint le groupe et fait son premier concert avec Upten au Festival de Dijon pour les 20 ans des Tanneries et les 10 ans de Maloka avec Inner Terrestrials, Oi Polloi et Two Tone Club.
En octobre 2008, à l'occasion d'un concert à Paris avec Gotham CT, Original Barbershop et The Run, Upten sort son premier album, "Time out", commencé un an auparavant avec Olivier. Le succès de cette soirée, à laquelle est venue participer toute la grande famille d'Upten, a mis du baume au coeur à l'ensemble du groupe, à ses amis et à son public.

Upten was created at the end of 2005 in Paris.They are 10 members and play 60s ska, rocksteady, soul and reggae. All of them play or did play with other bands such as 8°6 crew, Gotham CT, Original Barbershop, Soul Invaders, Stylnox, Presbytarians, Western Special, Acapulco Gold and Skarface.
When playing in common gigs, these musicians met, got friends and decided to start the Upten adventure.
They got their first gig in November 2006 in Paris and released their first single in January 2007. Then came gigs with bands like Moon Hop, The Caroloregians, The Dualers, The Shogettes, Original Barbershop, The Pepperpots, Matrimia Klezmer Band (etc) in Douarnenez (Brittany), Rennes (Dance Ska La Festival, Brittany), Lille (North), Paris (La Java and La Guinguette Pirate), Nancy (East), Dijon (Les Tanneries, Burgundy), Concoules Festival (South).
In July 2007, the rhythm section got into recording session. The brass and singer were to follow but a blow dealt by fate hapened and Olivier (the drummer) brutally died in August 2007. Then, the band got into a difficult year. Jason, a friend and drummer, caught up with Upten for a time and played two gigs : in Prague (Czech Republic) with GreenSmatroll and in Bobigny (Paris region) with The Slackers and Arpioni.
2008 started with a new recording session for Upten to finish and release the album they had started.
After the departure of the soprano, the new drummer Jean Misay joined the band and played his first gig at Dijon Festival for both the 20th anniversary of Les Tanneries and the 10th anniversary of Maloka with Inner Terrestrials, Oi Polloi and Two Tone Club.
In October 2008 on the occasion of a gig in Paris with Gotham CT, Original Barbershop and The Run, Upten released "Time out", their first album that had been started a year before with Olivier. This gig where the whole Upten family came, was a success and put new heart into the band, friends and public.

Gevormd eind 2005 in Parijs, is hij uit negen leden samengesteld: klopper, guitarist, organist, bassist, drie saxofonisten (tenor/bariton, alto, soprano), trompetter en vocalist, alle afkomstig van groepen van ska zoals 8°6 Crew, Skarface, Acapulco Gold, Dronken Invaders, Presbytarians, Gotham City, Stylnox, Origineel Barbershop en Western Speciaal. Een eerste concert in november 2006 in Parijs zal snel gevolgd worden door data aan Douarnenez, Rennes (Festival Dance Ska het), Rijsel, Parijs (Java en Illegale Guinguette), Nancy, Dijon… met groepen als Moon Hop, Skunk, The Caroloregians, The Dualers, The Shogettes, Origineel Barbershop, The Pepperpots, enz zal autoproduction de dag aan een 45tours geven die twee titels in januari 2007 is weggegaan. Sinds de output van het eerste album „Time Out“ de groep probeert actief om op de scènes van Frankrijk en Europa te spelen, en om deel te nemen heeft compilaties.
