Before The World Was Made - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 16, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
This piece of electronic musical piece is my Final Project for my History of Electronic Music course at the University of Haifa

The photo in the video shows how I planned it on paper and gives you a sense of how it's arranged.

I basically took William Butler Yeats' "Before The World Was Made" and I constructed a challenge to the material world in it.

The idea came about when I woke up one morning and heard the hammering on the roof of our neighbors; they hired construction workers to do the job and it reminded me of where our world is heading; we keep building and destroying for the sake of humanity.

The sounds of shattering glass at 0:08 is an attempt to defy this world, as I hope for it to collapse and to reassemble.

As you will notice, the vocals are manipulated and distorted, and if you do not recognize the words of the poem, well, there is a good reason for that: I wanted the words of the poem to sound eroded and distorted, there is an 18 second guitar track that repeats itself, first time with a sweet, almost tender tune and the second time it's being pitch-shifted downwards chromatically.

The first 18 seconds must convey this moment in history thousands of years ago where at that moment there was total peace, thats why the guitar tune sounds so peaceful.

It also symbolizes and refers to the alternate universe or the Uni-reverse, where theoretically if we're living in a shitty world in here, the alternate universe must be the place where you can find peace. But of course the overall idea of this piece is peace-of-mind.

The second time the guitar is being descended chromatically is an attempt to convey my own feelings of the path we're taking as we head on straight into a black hole.

The transition between those two worlds is bound by the sound of coins which ultimately represents the material world and my message.

To end this piece I edited in an out-cry and if you've been reading this, well, there's little you don't understand about my message -- though i'll keep the exact details of what I mean by this out-cry for myself, as to leave a window for personal interpretation. After all, this is poetry, melody and music and you are the audience.
