Born in Italy, at the age of five Umberto moved to London with his family. growing up, he became interested and greatly influenced by the music culture of the 80s. he soon started collecting vinyl from bands such as New Order, Depeche Mode and Soft Cell.
Later on, following 10 years of living in England, Umberto moved back to Italy, and it was during high school were he started to gain a personal interest into electronic music, taking influences from labels such as: Underground Resistance, Novamute and Plus 8.
As he reached his late teens, he realised that electronic music was the extra thing he was looking for; enhancing his background & skills in parallel with the techno culture of the middle 90s. The Neapolitan techno scene gives him the opportunity to meet creative people, and receive further inspiration. He soon became one of the most respected dj in the city, playing in the best events organised by promoters of Loose Club & Orbeat Events.
He supported the most known international artists, like: Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Marco Carola, Fumiya Tanaka, User, James Ruskin, Damon Wild, Gaetek, Steve Bicknell, Steve Rachamand, Surgeon, The Advent, Rino Cerrone, Craig Walsh, Oliver Bondzio, Billy Nasty, Dave Clark, Umek, Inigo Kennedy, Ellen Alien, Colin Dale, Portion Reform, Charlie Hall, Justine Drake, Oliver Huntemann, Ecoplex, ecc.
After about 5 years of working as a dj, he decided the next step for him was to become a producer. His increasing interest in music lead him to further studies and after 2 years he graduated with a degree in Audio Engineering.
His debut E.P. has been released on GFR Records, Following this work Umberto signed with the prestigious Rotation Records owned by Dave Angel, along with series of other releases on various international labels.
He has now started a new project under the pseudonym of Uto Karem were he creates tracks that combine more minimal and electronic sounds,
The next project will be Agile Recordings a new label created to promote his own music and give young producers the opportunity to release high quality tracks.
