Music is - People are
It was spring in 2001 and in the middle of Europe. Where I can't remember, probably Hamburg, Naples or Manchester or somewhere like that. Liam and Joe met Claudia and Connie and the four of them decided to make a record as quickly as they could. All the best records they liked were made quickly. They wanted it to be a punk electro reggae country mess, the sound of people with butterfly minds, getting bored quickly, getting excited quickly and all with a terrible urgency. Convening for a week in Munich and a week in London they made an album about the weather, holidays, boyfriends and girlfriends, sailors, the service industry, unrequited love, tom waits, sport, being afraid of going out, murder, record collections and small boats. Then the four of them went their separate ways, only to meet every now and then. The album would be called 'Ice Skating' and would be proceeded by a beautiful double 7" pack, because nobody seemed to make lovely packaging any more. And the band? The band would be called ultrafox.
Es war das Fruehjahr 2001 und irgendwo in Mitteleuropa. Ich kann mich nicht mehr genau erinnern wo, moeglicherweise Hamburg, Neapel, Manchester oder sonst wo. Liam und Joe trafen Claudia und Connie und sie beschlossen gemeinsam eine Platte aufzunehmen, so schnell es ihnen moeglich war. Denn alle ihre Lieblingsplatten wurden schnell aufgenommen. Sie wollten dass es klingt wie eine Elektro-, Reggae-, Countrymischung, der Sound von Menschen die Schmetterlinge im Kopf haben, die schnell gelangweilt sind, die schnell begeistert sind, und all das zusammen moeglichst flott. Man arbeitete mal fuer eine Woche in Muenchen und dann wieder eine Woche in London. Sie schrieben ein Album ueber das Wetter, Urlaub, Freunde und Freundinnen, Seemaenner, das Dienstleistungsgewerbe, unerfuellte Liebe, Tom Waits, Sport, sich vor dem Ausgehen fuerchten, Mord, Plattensammlungen und ueber kleine Schiffe. Danach gingen die Vier wieder ihrer Wege, um sich danach nur ab und an wiederzutreffen. Das Album wird 'Ice Skating' heissen und wird begleitet von einer wunderschoenen 7" Doppelplatte, weil es so scheint als ob niemand mehr solch schoene Platten machen wuerde. Und die Band? Die Band bekommt den Namen ultrafox.
