UGANGA has been on the road for 15 years. The band was formed in Minas Gerais state, home of Sepultura, Sarcófago, Overdose and other legendary Brazilian metal/rock bands.
UGANGA’s musical universe is based upon the crossover between thrash metal and hardcore with some dub atmospheres, hip-hop samplers/scratches and an extra groove parts. The lyrics brings philosophical reflections, self-realization and human dilemmas.
The band did release five recordings so far (two demos and three full-lenghts) and also collaborated in many compilations.
"Atitude Lótus" from 2003 is the band’s debut album and brings a more experimental sonority. The second effort, "Na Trilha do Homem de Bem", from 2006, showed the band searching for its early days style. The new album, "Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito", is the more mature and heaviest album of the band, with a high level production.
UGANGA has also been touring in Brazil, doing some important festivals and playing with various artists like Paura, DFC, Garage Fuzz, Racionais MC’s, B. Negão, Dr. Sin, Dead Fish, Deceivers, Forgotten Boys, Patife Band, Krow, Tequila Baby and many others.
UGANGA had always a very good exposure on Brazilian press. The band were the cover story of the #103 issue of the respected Dynamite magazine and always got very good reviews, articles and interviews on other publications such as Roadie Crew, Rock Hard-Valhalla, Comando Rock, Punknet, Whiplash, Metal Head, MTV Brazil, Rock Post, etc which made UGANGA very popular in Brazil.
After some line-up changes, UGANGA is now formed by Christian (guitars), Thiago (guitars and vocals) Ras (bass and vocals), Marco (drums) and by the vocalist Manu “Joker”, Sarcófago’s former drummer (he did record the legendary “Rotting” album).
THE NEW ALBUM – “VOL. 3: CAOS CARMA CONCEITO”
"Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito", UGANGA’s third album, was recorded and mixed at Orbis Estúdio in Distrito Federal with the producer Riti Santiago (winner of the Brazilian MTV’s VMA). The mastering was made in Germany at Music Lab Studio by the famous producer Harris Johns, responsible for some immortal classics of the rock/metal history like Pleasure To Kill (Kreator), Killing Technology (Voivod), Persecution Mania (Sodom), Live (Cro Mags), besides Brasil and Anarkophobia of Ratos de Porão and Under Siege of Sepultura, just to name a few.
On "Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito" UGANGA keeps exploring its musical identity, but with an extra touch of heaviness and aggression. On lyrics, philosophical reflections, self-realization and human dilemmas, like on the seven minutes track “O Primeiro Inquilino” that it’s the first part of a history about murder and paranormal activities.
The cover and booklet artwork is signed by the drummer Marco Paulo. Released in Brazil on digipack, the CD also comes with a poster and brings a multimedia track with backstage footage, shows, rehearsals, recordings, photos and statements.
"Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito" brings many special guests like the guitar player Fábio Jhasko (ex-Sarcófago) playing violin, the famous Brazilian rapper X (ex-Câmbio Negro), among others.
"Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito" was also released in Europe by Metal Soldiers Records from Portugal.
EUROPEAN TOUR 2010
The European release of "Vol.3: Caos Carma Conceito" opened the doors for UGANGA to make it’s first European trip. The tour happened in September of 2010 and completed 18 shows during 27 days of traveling by 7 countries: Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Portugal and Spain.
"The reception for UGANGA in Europe was awesome", says the singer Manu Joker. "We had the opportunity to do very different shows, from festivals to small pubs. At all gigs and countries we have been very well received by the public. Even singing in Portuguese and making a sound that mixes different styles, the acceptance for our music was 100%, either by headbangers, punks or alternative people in general. The tour was an absolute success!”
The tour began with three concerts in Belgium. Then came two dates in Poland before the only show in Switzerland. The band returned to Eastern Europe for more dates in Poland and Czech Republic and then UGANGA did two shows in Germany, including an explosive appearance at Razorblade Festival in Datteln. Then they departed for concerts in Spain and Portugal.
UGANGA returned to Brazil with some shows recorded which will possibly turn on the band’s first live album.
