DESCRIPTION: Building a railroad through the unforgiving San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado is one of many feats in the history of the American west that could not be done until somebody did it. The first Rio Grande Southern train steamed out in 1891 and the little narrow gauge served the farmers, ranchers and miners of the area until 1953. No Country/Western singer/songwriter would be worth his biscuits without a train song.
