Turku Romantic Movement is a Finnish rock band which started from the funeral of their Finnish version Turun Romantiikka on their last gig in Riemufestivaali, Helsinki January 27, 2006.

Why they decided to change the language even though their Finnish lyrics were in a big role in their provocative rock'n'roll? Well, they were asked to tour Europe with Canadian rocker Neil Leyton and the language change seemed like a reasonable thing to do at that point. At the same time they felt they're at some kind of a crossroad, something had to change to motivate them to continue the battle. And so the Movement was formed.

The European tour took place in March and April of 2006 in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Germany and Sweden. The first release in English was a split vinyl with Neil Leyton and it was published in May 2006 in Finland and in July in England by the new label called Fading Ways Finland. The vinyl includes TRM songs ”Animals” and ”Generation Updated”.

The split was followed by the EP Rock, Rhythm & Revolution! It was released on November 15, 2006 and included three new studio tracks as well as three live tracks from Stockholm show. Their first full lenght album Noise & Confusion was released in April 11, 2007.

After Noise & Confusion band toured Finland and did a few visits to Slovenia where the album was also released. Then, in the fall 2007 the drummer Kikke left the group. The band found a replacement in ”Texas” Terhi who brought new drive into the music. In the spring 2008 the original bassist Mickan also left the group, and the former live keyboardist Joonas stepped into her shoes and deepend the band's groove into the totally new levels. The band was now Helsinki based, but kept it's original hometown Turku in it's name. The only original members – singer Rami and guitarist Pete – were excited about how things had turned out.

TRM hit back on stages in August 2008 with the new line-up. It was great! They wrote new songs and went to Finnvox studios later in the fall to record them live in order to catch their raw energy in the spirit of the mighty Stooges and anarchist MC5. The self titled album is going to be a new beginning for the band again, and it's due out on May 13, 2009. In Finland that is. Central Europe will follow. The rumour has it that the manager of the record company describes the raw versions of the songs as ”future classics”. We'll see about that…

Join the revolution, mutha!

Turun Romantiikka 1999–2006

Turun Romantiikka released three albums in Finland: Ajatus on kapinaa (Thinking Is Rebellion) in 2002, Metamorfoosi (Metamorphosis) in 2003 and Rock’n’rollin viimeiset dandyt (The Last Dandies of Rock ‘n’ Roll) in 2005; two cd-singles and one vinyl single. They played over 120 gigs all around Finland and gained a reputation as an ultra energetic live band. Their musical style varied from aggressive guitar rock to Scandinavian melancholy. Their lyrics were polemical and socially aware.
