THE ORCHESTRA
The Trekky Yuletide Orchestra is a holiday supergroup made up of 30+ musicians who believe in the spirit of the Season. The group features members of The Never, Lost in the Trees, Auxiliary House, Butterflies, Embarrassing Fruits and Vibrant Green, all bands on the Trekky Records Label, based in Chapel Hill, NC. The band is a true orchestra, incorporating violins, viola, cellos, trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, flutes, saxophones, accordion and mandolin into the traditional rock band set up. TYO believes that it takes the power of many to truly convey the Spirit of Christmas.
The Orchestra is non-denominational, neither promoting of affiliating with any religion. While much of the music is "Christmas Music", the focus is on that wonderful feeling of the Holiday Season, and the concepts of brotherhood, unity, getting people presents, pretty lights and goodwill towards men and women. In general, we play for the benefit of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which promotes awareness of the debilitating disease of MS, and raises money to cure it.
Fun fact: Yule was actually a pagan festival which was eventually moved to occur on December 25 to align with Christmas. Later, the terms became interchangable. WOW!
