Mystic Urchin introduces the masterful debut album from Transdub Massiv. Take a sonic sojourn through a modern, psychedelic and soulful exploration of dub and roots. roots that are steeped in influences like King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry and the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, and warmly fused with ambient electronic influences that evoke the textures of Boards Of Canada, Future Sound Of London and Aphex Twin.

Featuring the provocative dancehall siren Ce'cile as a Cheshire Cat-like tour guide down through the banyan tree roots, the psychedelic dub poetry stylings of Sizzla longside Christine Straw (Ms. Jamaica Universe 2004), the sensual magic of the one and only Meshell Ndegeocello, as well as fiercely up-and-coming Jamaican talents like Farenheit, Jovi Rockwell, Rootz Underground and the sizzlin Tami Chynn (Universal). This album is sure to go down as a soulful pioneering foray into psychedelic dub and roots that transports us all to the next level.

Transdub Massiv is dj fflood (a Jamaican New Yorker in Oakland, California) and Mtfloyd (a Texan Brooklynite in Paris). They recently tore up Europe (again! this time, as a soundsystem, featuring mtfloyd, fflood, Jovi & Faren. see pics in the blog!) with their tour featuring Meshell Ndegeocello on bass, Farenheit longside Jovi Rockwell on the mics, dj fflood on the decks and effects, and mtfloyd on laptop guitar melodica and effects. 1000 copies of "Negril to Kingston City" then flew off the shelves during its first 2 weeks of inaugural release in France alone. They have been reviewed positively in URB, Recording Magazine, JahWorks.Org, as well as by a number of French sites (reggae.fr, and dubzone.org).if you read French our best ever review is right here.a friend was translating bug eyed saying things like "timeless", "high art".dayum!

and here is the URB big up:

Transdub Massiv feat. Ce'Cile

"Hill And Gully"

(Mystic Urchin) The first single off the modern dub compilation "Negril To Kingston City" features dancehall sensation Cecile who takes a break from her usual deejay slang to throw down some sensible lyrics that make you wish you were following her through JA. Producer/DJ's fflood, mtfloyd, and Steve Urchin come correct , utilizing analog boards, turntables and recordings of mother earth's sounds in innovating dub techniques that would make Scratch Perry proud. -DS

April 2005 URB, pg. 119

(umm, we think dude means "discernable" lyrics to the patois unfamiliar ear, not "sensible":)
