Thomas Panazzolo, or as he is known by his peers in the music industry as Tommie Sox, was fascinated by music from an early age. A precocious, young musician, he began teaching himself to play a variety of instruments beginning at the age of only 8. While he has the ability to play an assortment of instruments including guitar, piano, and bass, it is the drums with which he was professionally trained, and has always maintained a passion for.
As an adolescent, he was accepted into a world renowned band that took Tommie all over the nation, including New Orleans, Canada, Washington DC, and Alaska, and also provided Thomas with the unique opportunity to perform for both the Pentagon, and the United Nations.
For college, Thomas enrolled and was eventually accepted into a competitive Music Production Program at SUNY Purchase. The rigorous curriculum provided Thomas with the tools necessary to hone his skills and perfect his craft. He graduated with the knowledge of not only how to be a successful musician, but also an accredited producer and studio engineer.
These skills have served him well, as he went on to found his own recording studio before even his 20th birthday. Empire State Studios, housed in Thomas’ birthplace of Brooklyn, struck ground just before Thomas graduated from college, and has since become home to a multitude of recording artists in the music industry, ranging from established acts like hip-hop icon Melle Mel, and Boot Camp Click member, Steele (from Smif N Wessun), and exciting newcomers like Mims; to R&B crooners such as Chico DeBarge, and a host of other notable performers, as well, including members of the late Big Pun’s group, Terror Squad.
A self-proclaimed entrepreneur, Thomas has utilized his business savvy to align himself with a number of hip-hop heavyweights such as Funkmaster Flex, Mister Cee, Hot 97’s DJ Camillo, and Power 105’s DJ Carl Blaze on various releases to date.
It was his talents as a musician that brought him into the world of film. But it was his entrepreneurial side that took over, turning him into a full-fledged producer, sheepherding 9 Digits from its infancy in script form, all the way through post production and into the advertising and marketing campaign.
Thomas has always said that music is the universal language that everyone can relate to and understand. And film has provided Thomas with yet another outlet to speak to the world through his music.
