ToaStar, das ist nicht einfach typischer Reggae oder Dancehall im eigentlichen Sinne.

Im Herzen der Band stehen die Texte von Mistah Bomsh, der das „toasting“ im Deutschen perfektioniert hat, und den Sängerinnen Steph und VroniK.

Die Riddim Section um Schlagzeuger Joern und Bassist Jan treibt die Songs dazu nach vorne und laesst dem Zuhoerer keine andere Wahl als mitzutanzen.

Dem HipHop und DrumnBass Einfluss der Bandgruender zollen die elektronischen Sounds Tribut, die DJ Grandmoflash zusammen mit feinsten Loops und Cuts serviert, und ToaStar ein weiteres besonderes Merkmal verleihen. Textlich gesehen geht es hier nicht darum eventuell auftretende Parallelen zu kopieren. Es geht hier um das Leben der Sieben, auf eine sehr persoenliche Art und Weise werden Erfahrungen transportiert wie sie jeder von uns schon erlebt hat, oder vielleicht noch erleben sollte. Selbst kritische Lyrics werden hier auf einer positiven Ebene erzaehlt die Hoffnung verleiht und Freude verspricht. Sprich dem Zuhoerenden aus dem Herzen und dir gehoert sein Ohr.

Ehrlich, liebevoll, nachdenklich, herzzerreissend, stampfend, direkt

– das ist ToaStar.

Und warum haben gerade die karibischen Einfluesse die Leidenschaft dieser Nordlichter entfacht?

Dazu gibt es nur eins zu sagen: Jeder, der sich gerade mit grauen und trueben Gedanken zu plagen hat, bei dem es stuermt und regnet (wie in Hamburg so oft) – dem sei nahe gelegt an den Elbstrand zu fahren und sich den ToaStar-Sound reinzuziehen

– dann wird die Sonne im eigenen Herzen scheinen!

ToaStar, that’s not your typical reggae or dancehall outfit in the actual sense.At the heart of the band stands Mistah Bomsh, who drove “toasting” in the German language to perfection, as well as the soulful vocals of Steph and VroniK. The riddim section, centred around drummer Joern, and bassist Jan makes sure that the audience has no choice but to fall into the groove and dance their heart out. The bands founding member’s influences from Hip Hop and DrumnBass are being paid tribute by the finest loops and cuts served by DJ Grandmoflash, thereby adding another special element to the ToaStar sound. As far as the lyrics are concerned, it’s not about copying eventual parallels. It’s about the life, that the seven band members are living. Day to day experiences, that each and every one of us has experienced before, are being transported in a very personal fashion. Even critical topics are being analyzed on a positive level, spreading hope and promising joy. All of that following the motto: ”Reach for the listeners heart and his ears will belong to you”. Truthful, affectionately, contemplative, heartbreaking, stomping, direct – this is ToaStar. And why especially did Caribbean influences spark the passion of these northern lights?

There is only one thing to answer. Everyone, who has to put up with grey and dull thoughts, who’s in a stormy and rainy place (such as Hamburg very often) is advised to drive down to the Elbstrand and to check out the ToaStar sound – and then sun will shine in one’s own heart.
