Formed in 2004 this power trio from California’s Southern San Joaquin Valley has turned anger, pain and a healthy love for sarcasm into songs full of bar chord laden hooks and brutally honest lyrics. Guitarist Heather Mercer and drummer Shantell Waldo had been writing music together but were having a hard time finding a singer that fit. That all changed after a chance meeting at a party, where Shantell saw Darcie Blake in control of the room and remarked that she wished that she could find someone who had that much charisma and could sing. It turned out that she could sing, and on that day the sisterhood known as Three Chord Whore was born.

The bands musical influences are as diverse as the members themselves, Cyndi Lauper, Siouxsie, Hole, and The New York Dolls can be found in our collections. Three Chord Whore has a deep love for music, but the band is motivated by the fight for social justice. You can hear the echoes of their influences coupled with a heavy backbeat, catchy riffs, and melodic vocals on their 5 song self-titled EP released in 2006. The support of social change can be seen in their history of shows that bring issues like HIV awareness, LGBTQ, and gender equality to light.

With the experience of over 100 live shows and a take no shit attitude in their music and in their lives, Three Chord Whore has made a place for themselves in Southern California’s scene and is showing no signs of stopping there. 2010 brings the release of four new songs on vinyl, a full length recording, and a live show at a venue near you
