Since his humble beginnings as a DJ in Chicago, Dagwood's passion for music has evolved from Chicago House to Rap's new era Dirty South Crunk & Hip Hop. Thus, creating one of the most versatile musical influences that has hit this millennium. His ear for sound and the perfect mix influences elevates the fans of House, Crunk, Hip Hop and R&B music. DJ Dagwood grew up in Chicago where he began his career in music. At the age of (15) he taught himself to be quite a turntablist and quite an entertainer. By age (16) he was playing skating rinks, sock-hops, basement parties and teenage clubs across Chicago along with guest mix DJ spots on WBMX/WCRX & WKKC CHICAGO RADIO. Always the center of attention Dagwood would dance, scream and shout while he'd spin records. During his set you could find him scratching records behind his back and witness the infamous turntable on the shoulder while scratching simultaneously. Guaranteed to astonish everyone in attendance! His exclusive performances kept his fans coming back for more which eventually lead to a larger fan base and headliner spots at elite venues. As a teenager, aside from performing, entertaining and maintaining a serious work ethic there was also academics along with good grades and after school activities at the United Negro College Fund. Dagwood quickly gained the respect of his peers as a leader and was elected vice president of the "Youth Committee." While in office he helped develop and arrange a "Video Dance Party" fundraiser in which all proceeds went to the U.N.C.F. The end result from that experience stayed with DJ Dagwood and taught him the power of giving and the value of caring. Consequently, to this day he sponsors, donates his time, money and services to several charitable organizations and remains an active supporter of the U.N.C.F. Dagwood went on to record and collaborated with some of the most profound people in dance music history. Cajmere, Dajae, Bad Boy Bill, Steve Hurley, Kelly G., Fast Eddie, Jammin Gerald, Mel Hammond, Paul Johnson, Glen Underground and the man Dagwood accredits as his mentor in house, Larry (Mr.Fingers) Heard. "Having had the opportunity to work and collaborate with the people I admired most in music gave me an opportunity to learn, study and quickly apply." Not only has he been re-defining boundaries of hip hop & dance music since 1990, but has also become on of the fastest growing DJ/Producer/Remixers in the industry. With several 12" releases due to his credit he has made his mark and has been one of the driven forces behind the Chicago house music scene. Indie label releases include; Underground Construction, Cajual Records, International House Records and his latest release on Subliminal Records "Must Be Heaven." Those productions have given Dagwood international record sales and exposure. Which has allowed him to tour and perform (DJ) over seas at venues in London, Italy, Germany, Spain and Canada. In 2001 DJ Dagwood began an internship at So So Def Records in the promotions department. Several duties included; producing Mix CD's for the company and traveling with artist doing promotional show. Dagwood utilized contacts through networking and found outlets to circulate his Mix CD's through mom and pop's, detail shop and the ATL "bootlegger's." (The individuals that manufacture several unauthorized CD's to anyone interested. In a four year span that consistent Mixtape hustle, which included several genres of music, went from (3) Mix CD's a month to (9) Mix CD's a month. If you're in Atlanta, Georgia and you ask who has the hottest Mixtapes, only a few names will come up. They might mention DJ Jelly, DJ Drama and DJ Gold finger, however, another name registers. Not on a commercial level but on the southeastern underground Mixtape circuit, DJ Dagwood is known to be "the man." Within the last (4) years DJ Dagwood has established himself as one of the hardest working underground DJs in the southeast. A dj that has been notorious for breaking artist music and exposing independent talent through the widespread circulation of his Mix CD's. Proof of his work may be heard on collaborations with Lil' Scrappy, Ms. B'Havin, Young Joc, GucciMane, Maceo, Akon, J-Kwon & D4L. Appearances on DJ Dagwood Mix CD's is where these artist first received their initial underground exposure and street buzz. (DJ Dagwood Mix CD titles include: OPERATION PAPER CHASIN', HOT HITZ ON THE STREETZ, STREET SONGS, SLOW JAMZ AND MIC CHECK.) The outspoken DJ, Mixtape master and all around entertainer is gaining fans by the millions as his precedent sound caters to lovers of several musical genres. Securing a Gospel, Jazz, Dance, R & B, and Hip Hop fan base. His novel strategy of distributing his CD's is making Dagwood a commodity. Today DJ Dagwood is being called on by the top players of the industry (major and independent entities) to produce and host a signature DJ Dagwood Mix CD which showcases the artist talent. DJ Dagwood uses hosting Mixtapes for independent and major artist as a vehicle to promote their music, which render record label and artists the service of breaking newly releases music. If it wasn't for influential Mixtape DJ', such as himself, most artist wouldn't be heard, furthermore, gain notoriety. Currently, Dagwood has a DVD project due for release early 2007 titled "DJ DAGWOOD::THE MIXTAPE THE MOVIE. His continuous efforts has earned him a SOUTHERN ENTERTAINMENT AWARD 2006 and (2) nominations for The Southern Entertainment Awards 2007. ["Slept on DJ of the Year" and CLUB DJ of the Year.] As he maintains his successful operations of Urban Music Marketing and Promotions he's continually evolving. DJ Dagwood's future plans include radio broadcasting, music and film production.
