Having formed as teenagers at the height of the punk rock era, they were signed for the first ever release on the Cherry Red label. Recorded in only one or two takes, they played with the energy and enthusiasm of sixteen year olds which they were! The first single, Bad Hearts, was played by John Peel, made single of the week in Record Mirror and subsequently reached number six on the indie chart. Follow up, Howard Hughes, reached number four. Sounds magazine said, Ignore any prejudices you might have about being reminded of the summer of 1977 and learn to enjoy again (like last summer) the constant riffing guitar, studied vocals and melody line supported by the bass alone Pick up on the guts of the performance and wit of the tune. Its no Orgasm Addict but not so long ago, Pete Shelley would have been proud of it. And Brian Jones aside, thats better than we have any right to expect of something coming out of Cheltenham. The band lasted for just a few years and played their farewell gig at the Marquee Club (then still in its original location on Wardour Street) in 1979. Forward to the year 2004, and a book on the Cherry Red label is published, punky sounds are again to the fore and the Tights decided its time to unleash their buzzsaw pop on the world once more. (Get the two singles on the Cherry Red compilation CD, The Punk Singles Collection, alongside the likes of the Dead Kennedys, Destroy All Monsters, The Runaways and the Hollywood Brats.)
