Playing old-school Americana/Country fused with a Rock & Roll spirit, The 13s were formed around the soulful, gritty songwriting of frontman Sam Nation. Born out of Sam Nation's desire to combine Rock 'n' Roll and country, not necessarily in the same song, The Thirteens came to life in the summer of 2003. Self-exposing, witty, and downright argumentative lyrics on top of solid, toe-tapping, wrangler-rock.

As The Thirteens were completing their debut CD "Bad Apples", Sam Nation was killed in an auto accident, and with Sam we lost the band as well. This music is his and we are happy to have shared it with him. And now we would like to share it with you.

The Thirteens have been nominated for best folk/americana group in the 2006 Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. The Thirteens were also nominated for "Best New Artist/band" in the 2004 Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, and "Best /Folk/Americana/Roots in 2005.
