Formed in late 2004 from the baron nothingness of the High Desert of Southern California, Mad Marge and the Stonecutters hit the scene with a huge force. The brainchild of Marge- vocals, Mateo- guitar, Edgar- double bass and Dan-drums, The Stonecutters set out to play music their way with no regard for rules, fashion, scenes or formulas. This disregard for the status quo set them on their way to set a trail of fire with the music they’ve come to make their own. Loud, fast rock ‘n roll with a driving double bass, ingenious guitar riffs and ferocious yet powerful female vocals, perfectly balanced amongst each other and just as it should be.

With the close of Edgar and Dan’s previous project, The Intruders, as well as Mateo and Marge’s, Skullywags, the four got together and decided the time was right to start a their own project. Each brought to the table their individual experience and musical backgrounds to create a uniform sound of their own. After a few sessions of playing together the group had written a handful of songs they were excited about recording and taking to the stage.

Donning the name The Stonecutters, thanks to the classic Simpson’s episode, they began playing live shows where they realized their evident comfort and confidence on stage during their first few shows at local bars and clubs. In early 2005 they were given the opportunity to play bigger shows in Los Angeles with big names. Sharing the stage with bands like Demented Are Go, The Rezurex and Mad Sin within their first few months was enough for MMATS to see that the underground scene was growing rapidly and that there was a place amongst the growth for their unique sound.

They were approached by a small record company, Baseline Music Co., that liked what they’d heard on the bands 2005 “Stonecutters…are go!” four song demo and wanted to help them with their first record. The self-titled debut album, where they officially took on the name Mad Marge and the Stonecutters, was released in February of 2006 and thanks to the growing success of that release they were given the opportunity to play Vans Warped tour, tour the southwest and the west coast of the U.S. as well as countries throughout Europe including Germany where they played the biggest psychobilly festival in the world, the Satanic Stomp.

In the summer of 2006 they welcomed second guitarist Brian to the band. Now with the full sound they were looking for they begin writing new material for their next record and continued working hard to get out on the road and let everyone get a taste of the bold new sound they were brewing. With new songs and a new addition, the band continued to grow playing show after show in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside building their fan base and captivating audiences with their powerful and energetic live shows.

By the end of 2006, both Edgar and Dan decided to redirect their focus to their families and their careers and bid farewell to life on the road. Both are still a strong part of the Stonecutter family providing support, insight and friendship to those who have stepped up to fill their shoes. Mad Marge and Mateo welcomed bassist Matt Salamanca of L.A’s legendary psychobilly band Calavera and drummer Pumba Wartell, of the Barefoot Primates to their Rock and Roll family. Mad Marge and the Stonecutters took time to re-strengthen and focus on new songs for the upcoming record. The band was invited on their first tour as a newly reformed group to Japan as support for good friends, The Rocketz in November of 2006.

Having just signed their first European record deal with their new family People Like You Records, the new album is being refined and completed for an official release in the Fall of 2007. The Stonecutters are scheduled to play the Vans Warped Tour as well as a few follow up tours in the U.S. and are also scheduled to return to Europe by the close of the year.

With a new line up has come a new day and a new direction for Mad Marge and The Stonecutters. Still the in your face rock and roll that so many have come to love, but this time around Mad Marge and the Stonecutters have taken it to the next level. Keep your eyes peeled and be sure to catch them when they come through your town, this is a band you can’t afford to miss.
