We’re The Sort. We are one girl and three boys. Two of us strum, one us hits things, and one of us makes sounds with her vocal chords. We are not The Beatles. We are not Pantera. Some of us like those bands. Some of us only like one of those bands. We do not take our shirts off on-stage because one of us would get arrested, and because we are usually wearing our favorite shirts. We are too busy playing rock music to strip. We do not point at people in the crowd at shows or make excessive hand gestures to complement our lyrics. We know that you can only understand about 10% of the lyrics at a rock show, so we won’t pretend that a loud bar is the place for story time. Our singer will not swing the microphone around by the cable, but she might shake her hair around. We are cute and cuddly, but we can’t promise that we won’t bring our bad hair days on stage. In fact, we usually do. We currently do not have any songs that require hand-claps from the audience, so as not to psychologically trick you into loving our songs. Our first CD was released in April 2008. We are also always interested in talking to cool bands on the east coast who would like to share, trade, or organize shows.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY:

"The Sort's music is darkly energetic, moodily earnest, bordering on epic, and, perhaps above all, catchy and infectious. If they sound this tight recorded, I can only imagine their live show will blow you away." -Sarah Shay, Brick Magazine, April 08

"With a voice that ranges from playfully innocent to sassily sensual and a knack for endearingly simplistic bubblegum coated sentiment ("Imperfect perfection when he looks in my direction," "It’s not enough to feel the world in art," or "I saw special things beaten to the ground."), [Lauralam is] all any adolescent girl could hope to grow up to be.

The majority of (and most impressive portion of) Resentment, Despair, & Other Amusements has the band sounding like theSTART after having their synths jacked, while tracks like "Remnants" and "Valedictorian" would've fit perfectly on the Empire Records soundtrack." -Izzy Cihak, High Voltage Magazine, July 2008

"If you are looking for a fresh, alternative rock sound, look no further than The Sort's Resentment, Despair, & Other Amusements. Lauralam Thomas is an excellent female rock vocalist in a genre where females seem few and far between." - LooseyLucy.com August 08

"Their potential has been fully realized on the debut full-length “Resentment, Despair, and Other Amusements,” recorded and produced mostly by themselves." - Style Weekly May 08

"Just about every tune is a winner, which is a rarity." - Mike Mutant, www.thechickenfishspeaks.com, 2008
