The Silence Kit is a Philadelphia-based band that plays textured, moody rock music. Inspired in equal parts by post-punk, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, avant-garde and indie rock, the band was started by singer/guitarist Patrick McCay back in 2002 as a solo recording project, eventually culminating in the first album "In Regulated Measure" (2006). Several lineups have seen the band gradually honing their sound through the years. Following the recording of the band's 2nd album,"A Strange Labor" and the lineup changes that followed in 2007, Patrick found a new guitarist in TJ Wark, along with drummer Jay Dyer & bass player Don Ocava.
"A Strange Labor" was released in Spring of 2008 and received positive reviews from a great variety of press. From 2008-2009, the band (McCay, Wark, Dyer, Ocava) played in support of the release, adding James Cuartero on keyboards in the summer of 2009. In 2008 the band had a brief encounter and well publicized interview with Robert Smith of The Cure.
The Silence Kit recorded their third LP, "Dislocations," throughout 2009 and the album was released by Break Even Records / Azteca Records on February 19, 2010. The Philadelphia City Paper has called "Dislocations" The Silence Kit's "boldest, most cohesive statement so far."
Comparisons to bands like The Cure, Joy Division, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and The Psychedelic Furs hint at The Silence Kit's blend of melodic, moody rock. Each member of The Silence Kit has been in a number of bands through the years and have played all over the country. The band regularly plays shows all along the east coast, and has shared the stage with national bands like Early Day Miners, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Pela, Windsor for the Derby, Gene Loves Jezebel, Mark Burgess (of The Chameleons) and more.
