Its just Rock 'N' Roll, Nothing more, Nothing less

What is the music scene like today? Its a combination of everything! Theres the upbeat rhythmic hip hop to the sedate classical still floating around. Such variety! Yet there is still some original work in this hectic world. Youve guessed it: The Response. Its all about the music to these guys. Who play with a fever to please! To illustrate to the world that there is still an enthusiasm, zeal, a keenness to produce top quality musical fusion to those who want it! The World wont know what hit it; its the age of The Response, dawning over the new horizon.

The band started as a dynamic duo of Oliver Bryan and Dave Mcgowan. These two musical talents didnt realize that this was the start of something big. With only a £25 Argos guitar, and a £150 second hand (silver glitter) drum kit, these two started the pilgrimage of a lifetime. The road to become melodic giants! With their hard determination and self will, they prevailed to be able to commence their first step on this challenging escapade.

Ol and Dave formed a remarkable friendship, realising that they shared the same ideas on most things, including their immense love for music! With Ols eagerness to progress on guitar and Daves fervour in mastering the drums, the pair was rocketing forward to a not to distant future.

The next stage was getting out there! Into the World of Music. The start was at a school assembly in Year 9, playing with no vocals and no bass. Yet it was the music that counted and it proved to the rapt crowd that these two arent just drugged up hippies having a bash, they know what theyre on about. This was the start of something immense.

It was time to fill in the gaps, Ol and Dave began practicing week in, week out, with Ol as the main vocalist, and Dave as backing. This inspired the duo into creating their own songs, which is exactly what they did! Coming up with outstanding riffs, and awesome lyrics, these two managed to successfully put pen to paper and create their first song, Day-In, Day-Out. Allowing them to persevere and create more musical innovations.

It was the summer of 05 when Jack Lakin entered the scene. Only just starting to learn the bass guitar, he opted to join the band. Taken under their wing, Jack progressed, and with the same hard determination and grit, pulled through to become part of the band. And so The Response was complete.

The practicing carried on, and the band was taking shape, with more and more fresh songs, accompanied by the ever growing amount of gigs. These lads were hitting the local scene by storm. All thats left is to branch out, dispersing the innovative music of The Response to the unknowing public.

Then, who knows

This is a review we just had in the B_Line Magazine

"Local Lads do rock ‘n’ roll

With a £25 Argos guitar and a second hand drum kit, early sounds from The Response were raw and driven by a pure passion for music. The group from Spondon then developed and the two b_line members become three with the addition of a bassist, the group really started to take its shape and become the indie/mod group you can exsperiance today.

Now Oliver Bryan (lead vocalist and guitar), Jack Lakin (Bassist), David Mcgowan (Drums), all students at Bilborough College, are well known on the gig circuit reguarly playing venues like The Vic in Derby, The Factory in Nottingham and have even played to thousands of people at the Duke of Edinburghs 50th Anniversary celebration in Birminghams Centenary Square.

Struggling to define their musical style in terms on established bands, Mcgowan says that at any one gig they could play many styles from acoustic to rock and roll to more commercial songs. But he admits their ‘greats’ include The Beatles, Oasis, The Who and more contemporary bands like the Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks.
