The Pike Bishops on SellaBand

A cup-o-roots rock, a smidgen of blues, a tablespoon of 60's garage noise, a dash of alternative, not to forget a Spaghetti Western (give "Cactus Dave's Revenge" a listen) or Surf instrumental thrown in from time to time for good measure, and you have. The Pike Bishops
San Diego born guitarist/singer/songwriter, former stand-up comic and (cough, cough) script writer - David Thomson, formed The Pike Bishops after sifting through the ashes of his previous band Tokyo Burlesque upon the departure and subsequent retirement of their female lead singer. Along with Dave, crawling from the ruins of that band comes L.A. born bass player (and web designer) Martyn Evans. Having played together since 1992, with a brief layoff a couple years later when David roamed off to Boulder, CO and other parts of the southwest, the two later reunited to make a somewhat different brand of noise. With the departure of their original drummer, Jim Von Mueller has taken over the bongo beating position. Jim was drummer to one of David's earliest bands from long ago, and far away! Rounding out the current line-up, is Holly Ransom (of Snakeoil) on rhythm guitar and vocals. A fine and talented singer/songwriter on her own, the band is pleased to have the long standing boys club augmented by the Bigsby Girl.
Although piano, organ and other peculiar sounds pop up in their recordings, more often than not, The Pike Bishops perform without those wacky devices when playing live. This is not by choice, but due to the simple fact that a good keyboard player is hard to find. As a result, the live sound has been described as a mix of Neil Young and Crazy Horse meet "Live At Leeds" era Who meet The Groundhogs meet Foo Fighters. A strange mixture for sure, but it does manage to work quite well.
The mighty Pike Bishops are not only musicians, they are fans of musicians. David in particular (when not performing with the band) is constantly out and about listening to, supporting, and seeing what other bands and musicians are up to. When all is said and done, The Pike Bishops are die-hards and are here to stay! Well, until they're gone. I mean, damn! Let's be real!!!
