Born in London, Nicole was raised in Wembley. Her Father, who worked with the likes of Quincy Jones, The Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Lou Rawls and Frank Sinatra, went to LA in the 60s where he signed an album deal with CBS and his album was received with glowing reviews.
Inspired by the performances she had been witness to from such a young age, Nicole began playing the piano at four and was writing songs by the age of eight. Finding she had a flair for music she turned her hand to playing the drums at twelve and then, for a couple of years, took up playing her Fathers old Hawkes XXth Century Saxophone.
Having begun singing at church at ten years old, it was only 3 years before she was singing backing vocals professionally for Pauline Henry of the Chimes and Coolio. At 16 Nicole was offered her first record deal by a Major, which she chose to decline as she was determined not to go down the obvious pop route into music.
In 1999 Nicole met Eg White. Eg, having been an artist himself had gained cult success after the release of his first album, 24 Years Of Hunger as one half of Eg and Alice. On their very first meeting, Eg and Nicole wrote You Might Be Wrong, which later became the first single from Nicole debut album, Through My Eyes.
In 2000, Whilst writing with Eg, Nicole was approached by Telstar Records and made the decision to sign her first album deal. After Nicole and Eg had finished producing, writing and recording her debut album, its release was met with much critical acclaim. She toured through Europe and Japan promoting the release of her first single and Album throughout 2002.
It was at the beginning of 2003 that Nicole was asked to write a song for The Brand New Heavies by their management. She presented the song 'More', which she had written over a jam session they had all picked out, and soon after, Nicole was asked to join the band as lead singer, co writer & co produce for their next album.
Nicole Russo and The Brand New Heavies began a short tour of Japan and Korea in the summer of 2003 and had finished writing and recording their album 'All About The Funk' by Autumn 2004, which they then licensed to Hed Kandi Records new label OneTwo Records. The first Single Boogie was released and then the second single Surrender and album All About The Funk were released.
After almost 3 years of writing and performing, and then touring and promoting their album together, Nicole decided once more to pursue her solo career after finishing their tour. After leaving The Brand New Heavies, Nicole finished off writing for two newly signed artists abroad and has now returned to the UK to continue writing and recording for her next solo album.
