THE NUMBER ONE PROJECT 2008.

Atomic Kitten, Scaffold, Elvis Costello and Shack and many other Liverpool artists have all now completed recording their version of one of the 56 number one hits to come out of Liverpool for The Number One Project.

The tracks will feature on ‘Liverpool – The Number Ones Album’ released by EMI February 4th 2008. Many of the artists, past and present, will also be performing their song at The Number One Concert which will be held at the Liverpool Echo Arena on January 19th 2008.

The project will also see the release of Cilla Black’s number one hit ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ performed by multi platinum Liverpool girl group Atomic Kitten, released January 28th 2008. The Kittens are releasing the track especially for the project.

Exclusive additions to the line-up are the Hollyoaks beauties who have recorded their version of the first ever Liverpool number one, ‘How Much is That Doggy in the Window’ by Lita Roza and local singer song-writer, Thomas Lang who has recorded an enchanting version of local anthem, Gerry and The Pacemakers’ ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The Number 1 Project which is backed by the Liverpool ECHO, Radio City and Radio Merseyside, is the brainchild of Atomic Kitten manager Martin O’Shea and Jon Ritchie, director of the Korova Corp, the city's leading bar and restaurant operator. Lending their full support as project patrons are The Scaffold's Mike McCartney and Lisa Voice, the wife of the late Liverpool musical legend, Billy Fury.

Lisa Voice says: "I'm thrilled to have been asked to be a patron of the Number 1 One Project. Part of the concert will be dedicated to Billy Fury - with his original band backing Liverpool singer Kris James while he performs two of Billy's legendary songs. For me its great to see Billy being remembered and celebrated in such a way - he celebrated numerous top 10 hits and played a huge part in Liverpool's musical heritage.”

Martin O’Shea says: ‘We have added the marvellous Lisa Voice as project patron alongside Mike McCartney. Lisa was married to Liverpool's most successful ever solo singer, Billy Fury and has huge involvement in some very big charities so we're delighted to welcome her on board.’

The Number One Project is a purely charitable music project celebrating Liverpool’s musical history. It is to be the biggest charity event the city has ever seen with a hope of raising up to one million pound to distribute among six charities who work within the city.

The Marina Dalglish Appeal, Radio City’s Give a Child A Chance Appeal, The Marie Curie Cancer Care, The Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust, The Liverpool Echo Sunrise Fund and The Alder Hey Imagine Appeal will receive their share of all proceeds raised to help with the wonderful work they do within the city.

The project has a stellar line up of new artists and musical legends taking part. Martin O’Shea says, ‘I am delighted with the way the album is sounding. I always knew the proof of this pudding would be in the eating and I can tell you it tastes fantastic. There are some really classic sounding versions of some classic songs. We also have some really quirky versions such as the fabulous Hollyoaks girls doing Doggy in the Window.we're posting them all online next week on the project website and on every individual artist website so then we'll get the reactions which I expect to be amazing.

The concert also looks set to be a spectacular event with an extravaganza of stars in the line up. Acts, past and present, including Atomic Kitten, The Towers of London, Ian McNabb (The Icicle Works) and Dr and The Medics will take to the stage to perform their own version of a song made famous by a Liverpool artist. With home grown West End star and all round performer, Claire Sweeney performing and compering along with some other special guests, the Number 1 Concert will be a dazzling showcase.
