The Mugs have arrived. They have been sweating it out for nearly ten years in Brooklyn, self-producing their own records, booking their own tours, and endearing themselves to both casual and die-hard music lovers. Their latest effort “Gracias” is a culminating collection of tight, effortless and confident arrangements. KEXP’s John Richards, a fan of The Mugs since their first release, calls their sound “soul-flecked indie pop.” At turns intimate, haunting, boisterous, and hopeful, their music is a journey informed by the rock canon down the road unknown.

The production of “Gracias” is a bittersweet moment for the band. The July 23rd release show at the Bell House marks their last of 2010, with a break planned for the foreseeable future. The live shows are a workout where you realize not only their exceptional musicality, but also the bonds within the band – a collection of long-time friends who have learned to communicate artfully and passionately through their instruments. “Gracias” is a declarative banner of arrangement, lyricism and melody that in a mere 25 minutes delivers a full dose of enticing, satisfying rock.
