Formed in 2005, The Mondrians spent their first years writing songs in the mountains of Switzerland before embarking on a series of tours through Europe. They've played shows in Paris and London, supported The Kooks at Zurich's Volkhaus, graced the stage at Paléo in 2007. Their first single "Reason to Live" has been widely broadcast on Swiss radio while French Magazine Rock & Folk has called them "best new rock band" and made comparisons to Pavement. After a series of gigs in London, the support of Franz Ferdinand and a great show in Eurockeennes in 2008, they recorded their first eponymous LP with Gordon Raphael in Spain. Released throughout France and Switzerland in 2009 on the French label Le Son du Maquis, the album received great reviews and landed them a spot at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2010. The same year, the band decided to work towards a second album. In 2011, the Mondrians recorded "To The Happy Few" in seven days with Benjamin Bard. A return to the roots led them to record their songs in a cottage in the swiss countryside.
