Hellbound rockers The Mochines need no introduction … well certainly not in the European rock ‘n’ roll scene. Based in the scenic city of Cape Town, South Africa, the power trio will embark on their fourth tour of Western Europe in support of their brand new album, to be released late September. The flamboyant stage frolics and performances by founding members Ross LaDonnahue (ex-Ladonnas frontman – who recorded four albums and an EP and toured Europe and the USA excessively) and Patrick “King Kong” Magee, whose animalistic drum onslaught leaves audiences deaf – have made The Mochines Africa’s most deadly punk rock band. Their dirty approach to playing Chuck Berry-style rock ‘n’ roll at a ripping tempo that has all the girls in the front row swaying their curvy hips, has seen them share the stage with legendary acts like Australia’s New Christs (former Radio Birdman) and CBGB’s old hand Walter Lure (former Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers), among others. LaDonnahue, along with his Denver based no-bullshit-rock-you-all-night-long-band, The Ladonnas, has shared the stage with acts like New Bomb Turks, Dead Moon, The Candy Snatchers, The Murder City Devils, Duff McKagan and Zeke. The Mochines – Ladonnahue, Magee and new four-string slasher Daniel Futerman – are currently writing new material and will enter the studio later this year to record their third full-length album on European label Nicotine Records.

There’s a lot to be said about the mediocre rubbish that passes as rock ‘n’ roll today, but why waist your breath. Fortunately bands like The Mochines still acknowledge and live by the true rock ‘n’ roll fundamentals. The South African media has described the boys as both “South Africa’s most going-to-hell” and “loudest rock band”, which they seem to achieve with ease. They’re all about hard-hitting punk rock songs, influenced by the best songwriters and bands of decades past. From the infamous Detroit scene in the 60’s to punk’s golden legends in the following decade, glimpses of the best rock ‘n’ roll that was ever played can be heard in The Mochine’s music.
