The Low Lights

The Low Lights are Nat (vox, guitar), Matt (guitar), Ben (bass), and Rich (drums), four young upstarts from across the UK who met and formed in Cardiff.



The band started out busking on the Welsh Capital's streets, and discovered they had the rare ability to captivate the choosy Cardiff crowds with their heady mix of energy and charisma, not forgetting infinitely catchy tunes. Passers-by and music-lovers alike were impressed with their blend of funky indie and witty narrative lyrics. In a display typical of their dedication, early EP's were recorded at various studios in south Wales with the pennies (and occasional pound) earned from pitching up and playing on the streets.



2007's In The City proved a huge success, where they received glowing reviews: “The Low Lights bouncy, nippy verve combines blasé, sneering vocals and scuzzy guitars to create a vibrant tenacity all of its own making”. They've also had recognition from The Guardian, having been made Song of the Day with “You And I Should Go Dancing”, and the accolades don't stop there. This summer they won a nationwide competition judged by Andy Cato of Groove Armada to play 2008's Beach Break Live alongside the likes of The Enemy and The Wombats, and they were finalists in the BT Battle of the Bands to play the Isle of Wight Festival.



Increasingly The Low Lights are renowned for putting on tight and exciting live shows, having been the only unsigned band to ever sell out Cardiff Barfly, and regularly packing Callaghan's unsigned nights as word spreads.



Now, the buzz around the band is quickly reaching deafening decibels as exemplified by recent airplay on BBC Radio Wales, Xfm and Radio 1, and with new material in the bag following a recording session at Genesis' Surrey studio – it's time to look out for The Low Lights.
