Channeling compelling and confusing emotions into words and song is one of the toughest challenges (and most noticeably missing) in today’s music. The Lionelle’s ‘Shipwreck’ wastes no time of cutting through the core of these emotions while putting dark and angular rock behind it. They rock hard and scream when they’re frustrated and torn, yet they pull back to a lounge beat with swelling guitars and crooning vocals when they have calmed themselves down and accepted what their feelings consist of.
Following up on 2007’s self-released ‘Oh! The Company That We Keep!’, The Lionelle has finally solidified their concrete sound with ‘Shipwreck’ by putting some of life’s toughest lessons into song. In 2008, singer/songwriter Tate McCallum-Law was critically injured by a drunk driver, leaving him unable to perform music and leaving the band in question of their future. However, when he came back to rock he was ready to share songs with the world that went beyond meaning found on their first record.
Raw, dark and real. ‘Shipwreck’ is a emotionally heavy album filled with intricate melody and instrumentation. Unlike most modern albums, this can speak to your soul and help one fight their toughest challenges.
