Who are The LeeVees
Name four great Hanukkah songs. OK, then how about two good Chanukkah songs? Not easy, huh? “Dreidel, Spin, Spin, Spin” is a fun little ditty but let’s face it, it doesn’t exactly rock and/or roll. Even the great Jewish songwriters, from Irving Berlin to Lieber and Stoller, only wrote Christmas songs. The Festival of Lights could really use some tunes!
Two nice Jewish guys have taken up the important task of writing a bunch of great, rockin’ Hanukah songs. Adam Gardner (Guster) and Dave Schneider (the Zambonis) have joined forces and started a band called the LeeVees, and they have a new album of sweet and rockin’ indie-pop songs solely about Channuka called “Hanukkah Rocks.” Yes, every song is about Chanuka. Some say such a concept is a bit obsessive but Adam and Dave prefer the phrase “extremely focused.”
So that is how the LeeVees began but, if you see The LeeVees live and hear some of the new songs such as "Karpas" or "Jewish Stars" you can't not notice the fantastic other 3 members of The LeeVees. On drums, Michael Azerad. We call him Mr. Rhythym, sticks and the less exciting Mike. Michael is also a very successful music writer. We highly recommend you read his books "Oour Band Could Be Your Life" and "Come As You are". On everything (bass, guitar, keys) is Shawn Fogel. Four octaves of goodness on the vocals, a huge head of jew fro and a great new band of his own called The Golden Bloom. Lastly, our pal Shankbone/Dan Saks. He plays everything too. Sadly, he has only a 3 1/2 octave range. Shank is the man with a plan and has an amzing new band called DELEON out now on J-DUB RECORDS. We love our band and we know you will too.
