The Hormonauts were formed in 1999 and right from the start they stuck out from crowd, touring all over Italy with their own particular style, open to every musical influence. If rockabilly was the main ingredient, they would liberally mix it up with the aggression of punk rock, the danceable lightness of ska and rocksteady, even some country ‘n’ western balladeering, but never losing sight of their own characteristic irony! The band was formed from the 10 years of experience of Sasso, one of the more highly esteemed double-bassists on the european circuit; Pinna, one of the finest drummers to explode out of the punk/hardcore scene; and Andy, part of the historic Mutoid Waste Company, rambling Scotsman, country/punk/rockabilly fanatic and singer/guitarist of the band.
Their first releases were “Hormone Hop”(VoodooRhythmRecords), followed by “Mini Skirt” (Ammonia Records,2003) and “Hormone Airlines”(V2). The band had started collecting a few successes under their belt with the single and video of their electro-country version of “Staying Alive becoming a radio and TV hit, while the band was opening concerts for the likes of Manu Chao, The Cramps and Rancid and appearing at the biggest festivals in Italy. “Hormonized” is their fourth album (V2 2005) and contains their radio hit and unusual version of The Knack's "My Sharona". Their incessant touring is setting fire to the peninsula and the band starts to break into europe, thanks to the pubblication in Belgium, Holland and Germany of Hormonized. In 2007 played SXSW in Austin, Texas and at Eurosonic in Groningen, Holland, where they were sent represent italy. At the end of 2007 the band entered into the studio to record a new album, “Spanish Omelette”, this time collaborating with one of the founder Mutoids and LSDiezel, Londoner, Kenny Diezel. This fusion of experimental dub and elctronica with country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll results in a very unique and surprising cocktail of.electrobilly! In June 2008 “Spanish Omelette” was released, full and rich with surprises and the band embarked on another succesful summer tour. In November their version of the Bee Gee's "Staying Alive" was used in the French film "J'irai dormir a' Hollywood", distributed by the Disney group and currently a big success in French cinemas. The song is also used as the trailer for the film. 2009 started off with Spanish Omelette about to be released in Japan by ArtUnion/U-Pop records. Later in the year the album was re-issued on vinyil and CD for Cinadelic Records.
To celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary, they re-issued their first 4 albums on Go Down Records. Volume 1 of “Two Is Mei Che One” (A little italian play on words) came out in September and included Hormone Hop and Mini Skirt. Volume 2 was released in January 2010 and contains Hormone Airlines and Hormonized.
The band has just finished a new album exclusively for the european market which will be released in May 21th 2010. This Album, “13 Flight Rock”, is on Go Down Records and is a re-interpretation of the bands live repertoire and was recorded and mixed in their own studio.
The Hormonauts nascono nel 1999 e da subito si contraddistinguono girando l’Italia con
il proprio stile aperto a tutte le sfumature musicali: partendo dal rockabilly ed innestando senza alcun limite influenze che includono l'aggressività del punk/rock, la leggerezza del rocksteady (da cui è discesa la ska), fino ad arrivare alle morbide song del country, non perdendo mai di vista la sottile vena ironica che li caratterizza. La band nasce dalla decennale esperienza di Sasso, contrabbassista tra i più osannati del circuito rock’n’roll europeo, Pinna, uno dei migliori batteristi proveniente dalla scena punk/hardcore e Andy membro della storica famiglia dei Mutoids, scozzese doc, appassionato di rock’n’roll, chitarrista e cantante della band.
Il primo disco pubblicato dalla band è “Hormone Hop” (Voodoo Rhythm Records 2002) seguito da “Mini-Skirt” (Ammonia Records/V2, 2003) a cui segue “Hormone Airlines” (V2, 2004). Il gruppo colleziona importanti successi: il singolo e video della rivisitazione di “Staying Alive” diventa un hit radiofonico e televisivo mentre la band arriva ad aprire i concerti di Manu Chao, The Cramps, Rancid oltre a partecipare a tutti i più grossi festival italiani.
“Hormonized” è il loro quarto album (V2, 2006) e contiene il singolo radiofonico “My Sharona” mixato a Casasonica da Max Casacci e Condimix. Il loro tour infiamma tutta la penisola mentre iniziano ad essere richiesti anche all’estero grazie alla pubblicazione in Belgio, Olanda e Germania di “Hormonized”. Nel 2007 la band approda all’ SXSW di Austin Texas e all’EuroSonic di Gronigen in Olanda dove vengono scelti come rappresentanza italiana. A fine 2007 la band è in studio per registrare il nuovo album. “Spanish Omelette” nasce dalla collaborazione con Kenny Diesel, Dj londinese e membro dei fondatori dei Mutoids Waste Company che permette alla band di sperimentare concretizzare innesti country, blues, rocksteady su basi di campioni elettronici diventando un'unica fusione dal risultato sorprendente, un cocktail electrobilly!
Il 2008 inizia con il gruppo invitato come resident band del programma “Lo show più buono che ci sia” condotto da Gip, prodotto da All Music group. In giugno 2008 esce il quinto album della band “Spanish Omelette” con l’esclusivo lettore mp3 a forma di cassetta. A novembre 2008 la loro rivisitazione di “Staying Alive” dei Bee Gee’s viene scelta come colonna sonora per il film francese "J'irai dormir a' Hollywood" distribuito dalla Disney Pictures, ha avuto grande successo nei cinema francesi. Il 2009 inzia con “Spanish Omelette” pubblicato in Giappone per ArtUnion/U-Pop Records e per l’Italia viene ristampato in cd e vinile edizione limitata da Cinedelic Records.
Nell’occasione del decimo anniversario della band vengono ristampati da Go Down Records i primi quattro album con all'interno la bonus track "Tre Notti di Fila":
- Settembre 2009 "Two is mei che one vol.1" che comprende Hormone Hop/Mini-Skirt.
- Gennaio 2010 "Two is mei che one vol.2" che comprende Hormone Ailrines/Hormonized.
Il 21 maggio 2010 uscirà in esclusiva solo per il mercato estero “13 Flight Rock” pubblicato da Go Down Records. 13 brani re-interpretati e registrati nello studio discografico della band che rappresentano al meglio il concentrato del repertorio live.
