Gypsy Dave's sophomore effort A Bucketful Of Ghosts sweeps through the past and finds that memory, much like desire, can fill one up with longing rather quickly. "My Autumn Sky" opens the proceedings with its Mayberry-toned introduction to the nameless small town where the bulk of these songs are set. Although Gypsy Dave specifically observes Mr. Bell, "Driving along/Waving his hands/To a Sunday song" there's a Mr. Bell in every town, making these meditations decidedly universal. There are mournful numbers about burying a parent ("Daddy's Suit"), Roy Orbison-influenced rave-ups ("Dreamin'") and pure and breezy roots music ("The Passing Days"), providing more than ample proof that this young trio (all of the members are under thirty) have a comprehensive understanding of classic American music. Later "Fishing In The Rain" is emotionally frank; "I Got A Loneliness" is an acoustic hustle and "Follow The Stones" is a delicately played ballad that also happens to be a gorgeous love song. A Bucketful Of Ghosts is about daydreaming by the river, graveyards and who used to not live there and riding your bike down the road as the summer moon slides across the night.
