The Green Man

The Green Man is a band formed in 2004 by Marco G. and Eli G. In the past six years the band has played extensively all over Europe and has to date produced two albums, a 10" and a plethora of songs for various compilations. The music is inspired to the Mediterranean and Eastern flavors, with influences from 60‘ psychedelic scene, and lyrics are mostly about various aspects of alchemy, mysticism, Gnosticism. The first album is an imaginary journey from the pillars of the city of Irem, in the Arabian peninsula, to the far north of Summerisle where pagan rites survive and perpetuate in spite of Puritanism. The music traces the atmosphere of the Middle East and then reverting to typically European folk. The second album tells the struggle between the Teacher of Righteousness and the Man of Lie, reworking the Gospel according to the Dead Sea Scrolls and the apocryphal gospels. the music blends moments of ecstasy and apocalypse, throwing the listener in the middle of events and sacred places. After the second reprint of the first album, which is sold out, The Green Man attended Folk Studio, the first release of a series of compilations by HR! SPQR dedicated to the rediscovery of songs and dialects in Italy. The Green Man is currently working on the next album, the third one, due out in spring 2011.
