Siblings may not always get along, but for the Godkin brothers, their bond is stronger than ever. Ishmael, Isaac and Israel Godkin have grown together, not just as a family, but as a band – creating music and performing all over the country and internationally, sharing their talents through contemporary songs and energetic spirit.
Listening to the funky beats of their debut album, you clearly hear the fun these brothers have together, doing what they do. Now with their latest EP – a prelude to their full worship album to be put out this year – it’s obvious how much The Godkins have matured and transitioned into a band of brothers who inspire the hearts of all ages.
Born and raised in Tacoma, Wash., The Godkins have been making music together since they were kids. Now young men in their twenties, The Godkins continue to uphold their values of faith and family. They’ve been on an incredible journey that has rewarded them with great opportunities. Their homes have grown with recent marriages, and the brothers commute between California and Tennessee to accommodate their families and their work. Their artistic independence has helped the band in its abundant growth, and that maturity is best seen in their music.
Listening to the GK Worship EP, you’re first serenaded by guitar riffs in the song “For Who You Are” before you’re completely captivated by the voice of Ishmael, keyboardist. Isaac joins in drums as Israel plays the bass, and together The Godkins harmonize to entertain you with sounds they’ve defined as “neo-soul” – an eclectic mix of contemporary pop, Islander soul and R&B. The Godkins combine a familiar beat with their own lyrics in “You Are Holy,” showcasing their creative originality. And the anthem “God of this City” instills gentle tones to touch your heart with sweetness, then crescendos into a powerful composition full of meaning and message.
The music speaks for itself. The Godkins have grown remarkably, and now they continue on their musical journey with more purpose and determination. These young men have always known what they’ve wanted to contribute to the world because of the prayers of their father. When their parents had trouble conceiving children, their father made a promise that his children would share their talents to the world. Now through this rite of passage, the brothers know exactly how to enhance their sound and appeal to their growing audiences.
