"Second Line" parade and band in New Orleans' Garden District, May 15, 2016 - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 25, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
I was in for a surprise on Sunday, May 15 when I visited the Garden District neighborhood of New Orleans along Saint Charles Street. Having never been to NOLA before or studied much about some of the little things, I was surprised to see a "Second Line" parade take place. I also catch historic streetcar 945, part of the original NOLA fleet built by Perley Thomas company, pass by on the Saint Charles line.
Nowadays, "Second Line" parades usually take place on Sundays. They originally started as parades parallel to a funeral, but nowadays are just done for fun celebration. In this clip I catch a brass band playing some piece (really not sure about what this music's title is) as well as several dancers in colorful costumes and many people just joining in the parade.
