REVIEWS OF SINGLES "GOD IS DEAD"/"I SHOT YOU BABE" & "GHAD"/"USA"

From Mosul, Iraq – via the Metal Postcard label – this is as ballsy and provocative a single as one could imagine, exceedingly rich in both humour and fearless critique. The lack of any direct comment only serves to draw the listener in closer to ponder the finer points for themselves. For instance, was porn dialogue chosen simply to cause maximum offence, or is this a more specific comment on gender roles? The listener is only met halfway, and must therefore become actively engaged in the issue.

In similar fashion, b-side ‘I Shot You Babe (Sunni & Shia)’ transcends the sniggersome wordplay of the title to deliver a damning indictment of the present situation. In pummeling the Sonny and Cher original with gunfire and abrasive electronics, the hostility is rendered incongruous and nonsensical, clashing starkly with the harmony and togetherness expressed by the tune. It’s a remarkable single, then – one which perhaps has to be heard to be believed, and which ultimately bolsters popular music’s status as an art form. 8/10Drowned In Sound (UK)

This month I look to people who use beat machines for imaginary pop. And I'm doing this particularly for XLR8R's egghead readers who know when to put down that xbox and pick up that Faust record. Let's start with DJ Foundation who drops Koran samples and porno snippets into his single (Have They Not Heard) God Is Dead (Metal Postcard) which is perfect for that Pat Robertson get-together you've been planning. Sinister synths and an old Muslim man's voice hover atop the tip tap of a soft beat on the excellent single- worth getting your hands chopped off for.

XLR8R Magazine

In the age when political correctness has become the norm, Dj Foundation has gone for the exact opposite. "I Shot You Babe" is a cover of the Cher sing-a-long classic but infused with gunshot sounds and Iraq related quotes, samples and artwork. On the flip, mr Foundation has spliced a Garry Glitter tune with samples of what could be underage girls urging him to engage in rather questionable behaviour. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Phonica Records (London)

On the Metal Postcard Label "God is Dead" captures the true voice from the nation of Iraq and Roll at it's finest.A stompin' riff that's littered with sexy vox. It makes me HOT!!! Thank Allah we are on standing solid "DJ Foundation".Run and get it Save our world!

10 December 2006 - SINGLE OF THE WEEK Aha. more brilliance ahoy! DJ FOUNDATION/ SUNNY & SHIA Presents (Have They Not Heard) God Is Dead b/w I Shot You Babe. This is genius. It's oh so very very wrong

Norman Records - Leeds (UK)

"dj foundation strikes again with a classic slice of proper bastard pop that's as funky as it is subversive. "(have they not heard) god is dead " marries the cry of a minorette with the stomping glam-beat of mr gary glitter with some nice porno samples thrown in. totally outrageous but totally cool. flip it for the sonny and cher baiting 'i shot you babe" from the wonderfully titled sunni and shia. very topical indeed. do not miss." (Rough Trade, UK)

"I got you babe" remiksas "I shot you babe". Tas tai visai nuude. Rekomenduojame, 10/10. Neber ka ir bepridurt, tik anglika recenzija. Dar sklinda gandai, kad vienas projekto muzikantu gyvea Irake - bandysime patikrinti i fakta.

Musik Alutis

Maybe choosing Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part Two" and Sonny and Cher's "I Got You Babe" for samples isn't the most innovative way to compose electronic music tracks nowadays. However, dubbing them Sunni and Shia and peppering it with gunfire, flying missles and transforming it into "I Shot You Babe" just might be

75 or less

There was no way we could have played Side A of this seven inch, but we did find room for the B side, here on Some Assembly Required, as it seemed just a little less likely to lose us any stations within earshot of the Bible belt. It's as frustrating to describe a sound collage record in terms of what the FCC would have to say, as it is to define it by a list of the samples you can pick out, but if you've ever heard Side A ("(Have They Not Heard) God is Dead"), then I doubt you're shaking your head too vehemently right now.

Are you crazy?? Why confuse the word of God with music and songs makes them This is wrong in all religions

To Be Or Not To Be

I just wanted to tell you that I love what you do. When I first heard "god is dead" I felt good. You have guts, something most of our generation lacks entirely. I listened to the track again and then started worrying about the negative response and interpretation something like this might invoke. It really worried me. My feeling was saying YES! this is great! and by analysing it I started going down an alley where I was thinking about the complexity of situations, the sensitivities, provocation etc. I listened to it again and came to the conclusion that because it's beautiful it must be innocent. The naive way is the only way to look at things with any kind of purity.

You know that i love you, and together we can go far. I am no idiot see, and i see in your music mixing your perception of cultural sexuality. A type of sexuality which our western culture might bring. Your on the front lines of a battle which you might not fully understand just yet. Let me tell you. In contrast to a world which we both cannot see (i cant see yours, you cant see mine) i am sure that you see the sexuality of the western American coming towards the mid-east. What else will homogenize our cultures then sexiness? But will you further their sexual trap? Or will you help expose it's weaknessYou will see that you will shift minds within the domain that inspires your mixing. Be careful, a lot is at stake.

I think this is the face of what we are fighting against in the War On Terror. I want others to judge for themselves. The fact that this music will air on Al-Jazeera onlyreinforces my belief.

I was really sad to hear that you mixed what appears to be recordings of Muslim prayers with porn vocals. I could never imagine doing that to anyone's religion Did you intentionally send us a friend request to offend?
