The Dictions

The idea of the band started back in 1999 when Germs, Javi and their cousin Carlos where influence by Sgv punk scene and wanted to make a band. The only problem was they didn't have a drummer or any equipment. So they just forgot about the band until Luigi moved in next door to Germs & Javi 2 years later. After a while we started kicking it with Luigi. He was asked if he wanted to play drums but he didn't want to. Germs and Javi kept bugging him and telling him “to stop being a bitch” until he decided he would play drums. Luigi took about 6 months to get his drums because his dad lagged it. So by May of 2002 the Dictions were finally formed. When we started practicing, Carlos vox , Germs played guitar, Javi Bass, and Luigi Drums. By the second week of practice Carlos left the band because he didn't have time to practice since he went to school and worked. So Germs was forced to take over Vox. People would always talk shit about Germs' vocals that he sounded fucken gay. We tried getting a lead guitarist but it didn't work out with (Saul/Kevin) so we just decided to stay a 3 piece punk band. In 2009 Javi our original bassist got married so he has stepped out of the band. In 2009 Javi Oi! "Harb" has filled in playing bass. Our first name was A-punks (Anonymous) it was gay, so we went to The Dictators but there's a band already called that from the East Coast. One of our friends, Chris (smokes) the O.G. bass player from the Mercs gave us the idea of The Dictions at this gig where we went to see them play. So we actually liked the name and decided to keep it. For a while we didn't play any where till the end of 2002. We started to play more often. Some people thought that we really sucked. Our first show/gig we played was in the parking lot of Mcd's on Garvey and Rosemead (it sucked and we sucked as well). Since then, we've got ALOT better and got respect from other local bands. The Dictions have play all over L.A. S.G.V & San Bernardino, Riverside area. We have played big shows or small kick backs. We play where ever as long as we can have fun and have a beer. We have been through a lot as a band cops beating up some of the band members, equipment taken away, Health issues, & other things but we are proud to say we are still around representing who we are “THE DICTIONS from monte”. The Dictions main influences are T.s.o.l Major Accident, Adicts, G.B.H., The Germs, Ramones, The Casualties, etc. The Dictions are basically 3 guys trying to survive a bunch of bullshit in the streets of El Monte and getting our message out there. The whole point of The Dictions is to try to keep the punk scene alive in Los Angeles. We are trying to bring something new to it and a good meaning in the music.
