Born of a proud lineage of convicts, bushrangers, stowaways and scoundrels THE CURRENCY form a six-piece orchestra parading traditional folk instruments alongside a firecracker punk rhythm section. Fiddle, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar play a mix of jigs, sea shanties, oz rock and punk anthems that keep the crowd dancing like wild dingoes.
LIVE SHOWS THE CURRENCY pride themselves on putting on a good show, always picking great venues and
original bands to play with. They have sold out full capacity at the EAST BRUNSWICK CLUB and NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB doing their own headliner shows.
THE CURRENCY have travelled the East Coast a number of times. They have shared the stage with American punk rockers ANTI-FLAG, joined US Celtic punk legends FLOGGING MOLLY for two Guinness soaked nights at the Corner Hotel, supported Boston heavyweights DROPKICK MURPHYS, and even opened for our own folk-rock legends WEDDINGS PARTIES ANYTHING.
They are experienced at Festival shows too having played PYRAMID, PORT FAIRY, The ST KILDA FESTIVAL, HIGH VIBES, SYDNEY ROAD, MOOMBA, QUEENSCLIFF, the MALDON FOLK FESTIVAL and others. The band loves to get amongst it all and see other acts and towns.
DEBUT ALBUM In amongst playing heaps of live shows the band also found time to record an album with producer
RICHARD STOLZ at Sing Sing in 2008/09. Whether it was the runaway bolters or celtic ballads Richard was able to catch the acoustic tones of the instruments alongside the lively energy of the group. The songs tell stories of days both past and present and are driven home by JUSTIN MOORE's unmistakably Austral- ian vocal style. The self titled album is released on the bands own label HAUL AWAY and the CD is distributed by POISON CITY RECORDS in Australia, it also has a Japanese release on UNCLE OWEN records and it is digitally available online from I-TUNES as well.
The band are currently working on follow up material incorporating celtic banjo and piano accordion into the brew.
