[Description]
Nothing is certain until the starting gate opens on May 4, but it looks like five (one-fourth) of the likely 20 starters in Kentucky Derby 139 will be horses foaled within five miles of each other in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
To celebrate that remarkable accomplishment and recognize the hard work and good fortune of Bourbon County's current and past Kentucky Derby breeders and winners, we invite you to gather at Clay's Downtown Restaurant on Thursday evening, May 2 at 7:30.
Arthur Hancock III (breeder and/or owner of 1982 Derby winner Gato del Sol, 1989 Derby winner Sunday Silence and 2000 Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus) and Arthur Hancock IV will open the evening with their bluegrass music, and will be joined by nationally celebrated Town Mountain band.
After the first set, our emcee will introduce the connections of 2013 Kentucky Derby horses who can be present that evening, and connections of previous Bourbon County Kentucky Derby winners who can be present. The 2013 horses, in alphabetical order, are:
GOLDENCENTS (bred* and raised at Rosecrest Farm on Winchester Road)
ITSMYLUCKYDAY (bred and raised at Brandywine Farm on Jackstown Road)
LINES OF BATTLE (foaled and raised at Claiborne Farm on Winchester Road)
ORB (foaled and raised at Claiborne Farm on Winchester Road)
VYJACK (bred and raised at Machmer Hall Farm on Winchester Road)
* "bred" means the owner of the farm is also co-breeder of the horse
After the break, Town Mountain will continue to entertain the crowd. There is no cover charge, but everyone is responsible for their own food and beverage.
Hope you'll join us for a fun evening that all Bourbon County hardboots have earned with their dedication to the Thoroughbred horse 365 days a year!
