Nothing Painted Blue - Another Child Bride - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 17, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
From one of the 1990s most overlooked indie bands, originally released in July 1993 as part of the Simple Machines Working Holiday series, it is also compiled on the band's Emotional Discipline album (1997).

franklin bruno (known for sometimes being a mountain goat and otherwise assisting John Darnielle with small dollops of his transcendence) has written some great lyrics, and here they are for this tune, with a few question marks:

its easy to agree with the man and the mitre (mitre=name for bishop's hat)
when you haven't got a daughter with another one inside her
its easy to insist that the method be Rhythm
when your only son is carrying a metronome within him

he'll do the honorable thing
quivering by your side
and the last thing this family needs
is another child
and another child bride

he shows up at her window
and she shimmies down the ladder
when she get back to her room, she's no wiser
but she's sadder

when saint and the serpent
prepare themselves to grapple
its starts out in a Chevy
and it ends up in a chapel

she'll do the honorable thing
its shivering cold outside
and the last thing this family needs
is another child
and another child bride

hard labor for those in prison
contractions like don't and isn't
just look how the baby glistened
traveling down that slide

on april twenty-second
all her cousins threw a shower
and she opened up appliances
for upwards of an hour

blood test, license, civil ceremony
then they went back to her mother's house
for wine and cannelloni

he'll do the honorable thing
deliver you(?) from your bride
and the last thing this family needs
is another child
and another child bride

(lifted from Madonna's Papa Don't Preach)
i'll keep the baby
i'm keeping the baby
