The Blue Eclipse has a unique sound that can only be described as heavy rock softened by the intricacies of the piano. Their music provides powerful vocals, catchy melodies and strong lyrics which captivate audiences everywhere. Unlike most rock bands, the foundation of their music is heavily provided by the piano, but is perfectly blended with intense guitar riffs, beefy bass, and energetic drum beats.
The Blue Eclipse hails from Lafayette, Louisiana. Only together since February 2006, the band made immediate progress by performing their debut, June 3, 2006 on live television for a morning show on KLFY- Channel 10. With that, The Blue Eclipse has been featured in local newspapers, has received radio play, and was selected as one of only 20 bands to compete in Club La Vela's 2006 and 2007 Battle of the Bands in Panama City Beach, Florida. Katie won best vocals of the 2007 competition!
The band was included in a podcast in December 2006 for www.eldoradounderground.com, and was filmed for LCN-TV networks' "Live Concert Series" twice. They were also the featured artist/band in Warning Magazine's January 2007 issue.
On January 30, 2007, The Blue Eclipse performed a music industry showcase for several record labels in New York City. The Blue Eclipse recorded with Voytek Kochanek in July of 2007 at Atlantis Studios in Nashville, TN. Voytek has worked with many distinguished artists such as: Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, Peter Frampton, Ice Cube, Ice T and L.A. Guns. The remainder of 2007 was spent playing live and promoting their newly finished demo version of "From A Dream".
Upon completing the second half of their album "From A Dream" in early 2008, the band continued playing shows and promoting their first full album. Late 2008 and 2009 was spent in the studio working on their second album and dabbling with ideas for future works. The band did not play live as often as they had started out, but they feel that the time was much needed to refresh, regroup, and renew in order to develop into something even better for their fans. 2010 saw the release of their second album "Get Inside" and a spurt of shows showcasing their new music. 2011 brings in new light for the group as they intend to add a second guitarist into the mix. The Blue Eclipse is working on recording their next album this year along with playing shows and will be looking forward to hitting the road again with their new music!
The Blue Eclipse is comprised of formally trained musicians, three of whom studied music-media at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Katie Guidry (Vocals and Piano) has been writing music since she was 16 and is responsible for writing the majority of the bands music. She draws her vocal influences from Mariah Carey, Fiona Apple and Amy Lee. Katie has a Degree in Music Media with an emphasis in Voice. She is a sought after vocalist for weddings and is also an auditioned member of the prestigious area choir, Chorale Acadian. David Rabalais is not only the lead guitarist but also the recording engineer for The Blue Eclipse. He's accountable for recording half of the band's first album, "From A Dream" and their entire second album "Get Inside". Dave has an Associates degree in Electronics and a degree in Music Media with an emphasis in Guitar. He also owns his own recording and photo studio called Randy Diddly Studios. Beth Dagen became friends with fellow music-majors Katie and Dave at the university and was asked to play the bass for the band. Beth also does most of the bands artwork. She recently switched from Music Media to General Studies to tailor make a degree that encompasses studies in both the school of music and business. She finished her last semester in December. Drummer, John Melacon is the newest member of The Blue Eclipse! He has a knack for photography and can be found clicking away on the camera when he's not banging away on the drums. John also has a large interest in filmography and has a degree in set lighting design from Full Sail University. The band is looking forward to building and expanding its horizons and their ability to do more live by soon adding a second guitarist to the line-up!
