The Benefits

The Copenhagen-based act The Benefits are made up of lead singer and Greenlandic native Ilang Lumholt, and musician/producer Thomas Stengaard of Denmark. They got their launch in 2008 when their homemade viral video for their track "Physical" gained unexpected popularity in the United States via Youtube. The video became an overnight sensation, generating hundreds of thousands of views which led to its inclusion as part of a month-long pre-show that aired in over 14,000 cinemas nationwide. The consequent buzz landed The Benefits a record deal with Warner Scandinavia and representation by Live Nation. They began to play a series of major arenas gigs as support for artists such as Rihanna, Whitney Houston, and Kelly Clarkson, while also performing numerous solo gigs around Scandinavia. They followed up with their first official single "Seize The Day," which received heavy top 20 radio play in their native country.
