Named after a short story by Argentinean author J. L. Borges the aleph was formed in Thessaloniki in 2002 by Effie, Alex and Soulis. Earlier experimentation with soft synths had taken place during 2001. With Panos joining in 2005 the style and sound of the band was decisively shaped. A recent change in the lineup got Yiotis (Laissez Faire) to join the band as the fifth member in September 2010.

Early on the aleph have had actively engaged the Greek alternative live scene, playing gigs mainly in their hometown but also in Athens and other Greek cities. During this period the band also opened for Tuxedomoon (2007) and Louisa John Kroll (2003), again in Thessaloniki.
Their active presence as a live band along with the independent release of several demo tracks drew positive attention from the local music press (Soul Magazine, Sonik magazine, mic.gr, Epiloges). Two of those tracks were included in compilations, namely 'bless me father' in AUDIOBOOK 4 by postwave.gr and 'children song' in little peopleā€¦ big noise by Run Devil Run Productions.
In late 2009 the band entered Raindog Studio to record its debut album, with Dimosthenis Grivas being the production manager. This project is currently in its final stage and an independent release is planned in 2011. You can hear some here.
