Crash [Krash] – to collide with or smash into violently and inadvertently with noise
A D.J. is often remembered for his name but seldom defined by it. Almost anyone you know can pick up a laptop download Limewire and add the letters D.J. in front of their favorite nickname or catch phase, but for Chicago’s own D.J. Crash a name is much more. It’s a product, a brand, and it should ultimately define you as well as your work. Besides the comedic connotation that goes along with his name, citing the hundreds of various accidents he, his car, and life have endured, the moniker “Crash” also provides a unique and straight forward description of his style of D.J’ing. He is equipped with a thorough knowledge of original house music, old school hip hop and an ear for new innovative rock/hip hop music. Crash’s sets combine the two worlds of old and new, crashing together a sound and vibe only he can create.
D.J.Crash, born Jamie Grossman in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, began his career in Chicago’s premiere nightlife industry as a teenager. Learning to spin from his older brother, along with a small picture of his nephew on the turntables, assures you that music and the art form of D.J’ing runs in his blood. Playing his first house party just a few short weeks after purchasing equipment for the first time, Crash began to develop a knack for reading crowds, live remixing, and creating an energy level unparallel to that of most D.J’s.
Ten years of studying and mastering his craft had passed when in early 2006, a local promotional company, Famiglia Entertainment, decided that after a few meetings and some serious listening that it was time to give him a shot at changing Chicago D.J’ing forever. Armed with an attitude and style all his own Crash went from opening gigs at smaller clubs to headlining nightly at various big name Chicago Clubs like Level, Spybar, Bon V and Crobar to name a few.
Nowadays Crash hardly has any downtime with residencies almost every day of the week along with out of town gigs monthly. The energy level in his sets and the crowds’ uncanny response leaves a certain feeling in your bones and it’s that feeling that has and will continue to define him. It’s the feeling you can only get from one D.J., one brand, one name, CRASH!
