"Life is like a rainbow, it all just depends on how you want to
paint it" With that in mind, the singer/songwriter, sister duo
Sweet Rush were on their way. Born in Mogadishu Somalia,
Siham and Iman Hashi are the first female Somali artists to sign a major American record deal. After the civil war broke out in Somalia, the girls and their family moved to Toronto, Canada as refugees. Raised in Toronto these sisters were subjected to an environment, in which at times was very discouraging. Their dreams of becoming singers were often shot down because it was frowned upon in their culture. Never being the ones to let obstacles get in their way, they knew they had to make an extreme decision to bring their dreams into fruition.
In 2006, Siham and Iman made the decision to make the move to Atlanta. There, the sisters began recording and finding their voices and after 6 short months of consistent recording in the studio, they caught the attention of many record labels. After much thought, Sweet Rush signed a record deal with Universal Motown and by doing so hope that the precedent they have set will inspire their generation to follow their dreams no matter how impossible it may seem.
It comes as no surprise that their first major collaboration is
with fellow African artist, Akon. You can find Sweet Rush on his
latest album “Freedom” on the song “Troublemaker”! Sweet Rush
are currently in the studio working on their debut album.
