Susan Ashton looks into life's rearview mirror and sees a 25-years journey through the music business. That's a long time to still be recording and performing; to still have something to say. But if her current project is any indication, the conversation is really just getting started.
Susan was 19 years when she arrived in Nashville with nothing but the voice of an angel and a recording contract, but no performance experience. What began as an awkward girl from Houston learning her way on stage, soon resulted in three Top-10 CCM albums (and two of those in the Top 5).
The music and performances became more refined as she toured, but her soul dried up, until one Providential night in 2008 at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium restored her love of music that worships God.
"It was the first time I'd stood on a platform of any church to sing Christian music in 12 years," she said. "Somewhere during those two songs the Lord just reached down inside me and pulled all the junk out and changed me."
Susan's latest album is a product of that change. The voice is crystal clear, the music is artistic, the lyrics are thoughtful and challenge listeners to think seriously about the serious things in life. The best way to describe the compilation is, "musical philosophy."
Take a listen, then join the conversation.
