HOME OF LUC AKA ALMOST , SUPRA ROCKS "DA OLD 2 THE NEW" FOR REAL!!!

The latest 12” from French independent Supra combines two danceable delicacies for a range of disco situations. While the playground rap of Sharod’s “Schoolin” is in obvious contrast to the atmospheric “New Disco Jacket” found on the flip, both tracks boast a firm foundation of organic instrumentation, emphasizing a level of musicianship and sonic integrity often overlooked in the disco and house genres.

Sharod—“Schoolin’ ”

Schoolhouse disco rap, evoking the feel-good grandeur of Frankie Smith’s “Double Dutch Bus.” Originally pressed in 1980, this positive rare track features sturdy bass, dueling guitars, and is seasoned generously with handclaps and live party atmospherics. The timbales and cowbell featured on the extended drum break hint at early go-go. A final round of feel-good saxophone stabs tie this hi quality disco-rap package together nicely.

The Old Boys—“New Disco Jacket”

This is contemporary, big-room disco at its best. Heaping helpings of live percussion and fender Rhodes are marbled by atmospheric phasing and synthesizer modulation. The agreeable tempo and attractive dynamics of this track make it compatible with a wide range of club favorites. Vocally, “New Disco Jacket” is given an authentic stamp of Golden-Era New York by creatively incorporating Jazzy Joyce adlibs .

In the tradition of Supra releases, it's truly the best of both worlds, rare and new !

Funky minds think alike. When Snack and C’mish, a swell pair of Disco freaks, were asked to reinterpret the Gee Gee & Gym’s joint, they did a double take and freaked out a little! They’ve been spinning it out as one of their secret heaters for about a year then and of all the tracks that they could have picked, they were amazed an established favorite was chosen. So the match is perfect - rare italo boogie meets two disco boogie enthusiasts from BK. !!

The funk of Gee Gee’s Majika Boola hits you right in the knees with crispy kicks and snares, then sends you swirling with infectous guitars, synth hooks, spaced-out chipmunk vocals to release your inner dance monster, plus some major slap bass for that back end.

Snack’nCmish’s Majikaboogie continues the flavor of Majika Boola, taking it deeper into the electrofunk realm with pumped up drums for the modern dancefloor - mean synth bass, freaky synthwork, and dreamlike arpeggios sure to please fans of old and new disco styles. For maximum dancefloor effect,it was also given the Llorca’ and Almost’s Heavier Funk Treatment : a tasty mix and a judicious edit that will please all picky vynil devotees.

This Supra 12” finds solutions for any dance floor dilemma. The A side, by the Impossible Dreamers, is an experimental disco freak out by a band whose live show featured upwards of a dozen performers at any given time. The Flip side, a

Think Twice and Almost coop, is a four-on-the-floor roller coaster that combines the pop sensibilities of LCD Soundsystem with the Soul Train-stroll of late Sly.

"SPIN" BY THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAMERS

In the experimental spirit of early '80s New York explorers like Arthur Russell or the Talking Heads, this very rare release by the Impossible Dreamers is characterized by its primitive percussion and polyrhythmic hand claps. Party chants and eerie melodica lines slither around the entirety of this punk-funk opus, originally committed to wax by Merciful Release UK in 1982.

"CHIKIBA" BY THINK ALMOST TWICE

This thoughtful French Track, courtesy of the amalgamation of Think Twice & Almost could accompany any chase scene from your favorite futuristic fantasy film. Forged with the tried and true tools of golden era soul, layers of clavinet and gritty guitar are smeared onto the new wave frame of this infectious b-side. Although certain to appease house fans, the ample breaks and eager beat will satiate even the most finicky dance palates.
