MAKING OF 'ROCKET SCIENCE':

Superchrist biography 2010

Mikko Lohenoja - vocals, guitar

Minttu Muranen - bass

Lassi Jokinen - drums

Colorful power trio Superchrist from Helsinki, Finland are guitarist-vocalist Mikko Lohenoja, bassist Minttu Muranen and drummer Lassi Jokinen. And they've got something for you. Their sound has been described as a twisted cross between NIN, White Stripes, QOTSA, and even Prince! And truly they just are not the ones from around the corner, as you will find out!

Formed in 2000, Superchist slowly became a well-known name in the Finnish indie scene. After several acclaimed EP's and over 100 gigs Superchrist's long-awaited debut album, self-produced Colorgun, was released in Finland in November 2005. It was picked as The Album Of The Week in YleX (Finland's Radio One) and the first video "Tear Me Down Tonight" also got lot of airplay on MTV Finland.

The album was featured widely and reviewed extremely well in all Finnish music papers and magazines. Finland's most acclaimed music journalist Ilkka Mattila even gave the album 5 out of 5 stars in the main national newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. Later the paper picked Superchrist's album as one of the year's best albums only among few other Finnish bands.

Active touring in spring and autumn 2006 gave the band inspiration to go to studio and give birth to their second album Surfing The Zeitchrist. It was released in March 2007, and again it received praises in music papers and from the fans. The album was more live and raw sounding, and introduced a bit more funk/rhythm side of the band, which only had been waiting under the hood for many years.

One of themes on the second album was media criticism, and the music video "Thesh, It Is Lying There" introduced Jan Dresden, a media lobby who appeared as a spokesman for the "real truth" in press.

After excessive touring and two acclaimed albums behind, the band took a song-writing break for two years to create their masterpiece so far. Superchrist's third album Rocket Science was be released on September 1st 2010, and it will set new standard for the classic Superchrist sound.

The first single from the forthcoming album was a road tripping track Journey Is My Destination, and its music video, made entirely of Google Street View images, had almost 20 000 views in its first week of release in May 2010. It raised articles and blog posts around the world, including Finland's biggest newspapers. The second single from the album will be released in August 2010 - with a video too, of course. :)

Peace. Play it Loud.
