Sunshine Factory is a preschool in Palmdale, or a band from Palmdale. For purposes that suit us, we will discuss the band.

The story of Sunshine Factory began in the sleepy desert town of Palmdale California just outside of Los Angeles. Corey learned to play clarinet at age nine and played it for six years until he discovered the guitar at age fourteen when the love affair with music took flight. Corey grew up listening to a lot of old jazz and rock with some hip-hop in the mix for good measure. Bands like the Beatles, Beach Boys, and Pink Martini are big in his record collection. Corey met Jordan when his parents brought him home from the hospital - If you haven’t figured it out, they are brothers. Jordan learned to play the guitar at age thirteen and joined a few different bands over the years during high school. Jordan’s love of music covers the wide spectrum from Giacomo Puccini and Bear McCreary to Simon and Garfunkle to the Shins and everything in between. One day in 2005 Jordan invited a drummer friend of his over to jam with him and Corey, and that’s how Sunshine Factory began.

The brothers met John in late 2006 who soon after became their permanent drummer. John learned to play guitar early on and picked up the Bass from a kid he knew in PE class in high school. Later picking up the drums after being enamored by drumming of some more modern bands he had been getting into. Always being inspired by music like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Neil young Led Zeppelin, and the Smiths, his musical style came full circle with the more recent love of bands like the Strokes, and the White Stripes.

The final addition and the completion of the current line-up occurred in early 2009 with the adding of Tony. Tony had been playing the guitar and bass since he was eleven and began composing and singing his own songs since around 2005. Tony adds his own styles to the fray, with influences like Radiohead, Elliot Smith, Bjork, and Sonic Youth.

With the full line-up in play, Sunshine factory began to develop their sound and come into their own, creating ethereal yet playful songs that border on pop without being too catchy as to get annoying. With the intention of bringing a fresh interpretation to dreamy music, the Factory falls somewhere in the spectrum of that lazy haze of love and life with that bite of sorrow that brings you down to earth. Mixing in a beach flare, that unlike the surf garage that has become overly prevalent these days, Sunshine Factory takes things to a more relaxed and slower pace. Leaving you with more of a feeling of a calm or upbeat day with the sea peacefully setting the rhythm instead of enveloping you in it’s waves. With each member knowing how to play multiple instruments, as well as sing, the band often switches things up with members trading instruments with one another depending on the song.

Sunshine Factory recorded and self released a demo and began playing shows around Los Angeles and doing a few brief West Coast tours to get their sea legs. After garnering the attention of Steve Martin the band was brought into the Culdesac Kids family where they released a 7-inch single.
